Now that I am 6 mo post op I feel a lot better. It all really started when I was 12 yo but, never got extreme until about 4 yrs ago. I have two little girls both were c-section due to breech. I have been on the bcp ortho novum 1/50 since the age of 14 tried several others, but the 1/50 was the only one to stop the cysts on my ovaries. So I was on them for roughly 8 years, then went off to have my first daughter, amazingly worked perfectly, was off 3 months exactly when found out I was preg. After her birth I brest fed for a year, had some bleeding issues but nothing too terribly serious, they put me on a pregest only bcp. I gained so much weight it wasn't even close to funny. Finally after stoping breast feeding, I went back on the ortho novums, lost my weight periods reg and everything seemed perfect. Then a little over 5 years ago, I went off them again to have my second daughter, again, perfect timing three months out found out preg again. After her birth, had tubal so I wouldn't have to take any meds anymore. (Now that I have had a chance to think this all through it makes perfect sence and I should have pushed my doctors more.) About 3 mo after having youngest, I started have severe bleeding. My gyno put me on methergen, it helped but made my tummy very upset. The bleeding continued. I started taking the herbal sup ALFALFA. I took it for 9 months things seemed a lot better, I lost some weight, the bleeding wasn't so crazy, but I was still having large amounts after sex, and I would bleed for 3 to 4 days after sex. So, my gyno inserted a IUD with progesterone in it, because after blood test she discovered I wasn't ovulating because I wasn't producing enough progesterone, which in turn was just letting my uterus fill with lining then bleed out when it was 'out of room' as my gyno put it. Had IUD in for about 2 months before they had to remove it due to severe pain, It wasn't helping very well either. So they put me on the shot depo, seemed like it was working, started getting severe cystic acne to the point I couldn't go out in public, it was horrible. (Keep in mind that this entire time of going from this med to this med, I had asked about being put back on my old bcp, doc said NO) So, longer story shortened a bit, My gyno said the next thing would be hyster because ablation increased risk of cancer due to my estro levels being so high. So we scheduled hyster for 11/22/11. everything went well. Came home the next day, fatigue was crazy but, I felt so much better to not be bleeding or gushing. So, everything is fixed right???? NOPE, little did I think, the reason I was having so many problems is because my hormones were out of balance and I was unable to produce enough progesterone. 3 mo after surgery, things got horrible, hot flashes, night sweat, anxiety, aggression, breast tenderness, acne, losing hair, yeast infections, it was crazy bad. So, I was done with my gyno, I called up my reg dr and said hey this is my prob, went in and seen her, explained what my prob was and how everything went down. All of the sudden this look came across both of our faces of OMG WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT??????? It all became so clear. I have been having this prob since I was young. Too much estrogen caused cysts, put on bcp and all better, after hyster, why would I all of the sudden produce any less estrogen then I was? I wouldn't, I had already had an US that showed three pretty large cysts. The bcp was keeping me grounded, or evened out. My dr. put me back on a lower dose of the ortho novum, and here I am 2 months out from starting it, I feel amazingly better. Fatigue, night sweat, hot flashes, insomnia, acne hair loss, yeast infections, all gone. Crazy. I didn't really ever like taking a bcp I would rather natural it the whole way, but not possible for my body I guess. So, Just a quick word to the wise, I am sure that most think about this first, but I sure didn't and wish I had. If you have a hormonal issue causing your problems before a hyster, the hyster will help stop any bleeding or disease but, it will not fix your hormonal issue, creating too much of one hormone can throw the rest outta sinc then what? You're back to the begining just without a uterus and possibly without ovaries.
I have produce too much estrogen or not enough progesterone since a young age, Just because I am older and have had children, that doesn't change my dysfunction of hormones. I was hormonally outta sinc causing ovarian cysts, chronic annovulation, which all led to dysfunctional bleeding. I just wish now that I would have been able to think it all through first, but my gyno didn't explain much to me. I am completely happy now. I am still upset that I had to go through with a surgery that I possibly wouldn't have had to if the stinking doc would have just listened to me and let me try it first. Good luck to all and Thank you to everyone on this site and forums for your help. I wish everyone a wonderful life, If your worried don't be affraid to ask questions, and if something feels strange or just not right, push for it to be right. Do what you have to to get what you need, you know your body better than your doctor, I can read blood test results and know what most of them mean but, if your body is telling you a different story then they need to look elsewhere for the issue. Take care ladies, Lots of luck, sorry this was so long.
