My Adventure to becoming a hystersister princess

Hi there my name is Sheila (Dawnbrat) I had my crowning on June 14th
My periods have been out of control ever since I was 15, for 7-13 days every
month. After haveing my tubes tied in 94 the heaviness only seemed to get worse, I
went on birth control pills which did indeed help but, my PMS was awful, while takeing it I also gained weight, I am a smoker aswell, so I chose not to take it, then in 96/97 I had displasia on my cervix, I was hopeing that would grant me my wish to end the monthly battle, but I had LEEP, and ever since I have had abnormal paps, then in Feb/00 I began to have bigtime cramping and clotting, with each clot passed, it felt as though I was in labor, this got me a referral to a gyn. I was sent by my GP who had hoped the Gyn would do ablation, My appt was in april and it went really well, the gyn explained to me that he beleives in ablation for woman who are closer to menapause, so in my case he felt I was too young and would end up with a hysterectomy in just a year or two anyway. So my date was set for a TAH June14th, I had a two month wait which by the way was the worst part of this for me.
Because of my location I had to fly to the nearest maijor Hospital (10 hours away) On June 13th I went for my pre op, I watched 2 videos on the surgery and aftercare, had blood work and all the regular checks, heart, lungs, blood presure ect.
I was told my surgery time was set for 1:30 the next afternoon and to arrive two hours prior, and not to eat or drink anything past midnight, And to give myself a enema a hour before bed, that night was awful, my mind was going crazy, thank goodness my mom was there with me. I arrived at the Hospital at 11:30 am and was given some very pretty hospital attire to put on, and was told that I could just relax, I just got settled with a magazine and at 11:40 this man came in with a fancy bed on wheels and said were ready. I was wheeled to a holding area, where the anateisiolagist came and asked me a few question about surgeries , and then he wheeled me into the operateing room. (Wow, any surgeries that I had done in the past, I never remembered going this far, lol.)
I then was hooked up to a iv, and a heart moniter, there was this nice nurse standing beside me who held my hand and explained everything that was happening, she said, "ready?" I said , jokeingly, "is it 1:30?" she smiled and said its 12:15, next thing I know I was asking for somthing for pain, and my mom was rubbing my cheek and I heard her say "sweetie the nurse is getting it ready"( I guess we don`t have the pump thingy in Canada)anyway then I had this nasty nurse tell me to grab hold of the rail and pull myself over, that was quite a ordeal, anyway she jabbed my hip with morphine and tada.....lol I felt much better...I guess it was 4:30 by then and I was telling my mom she better go, she had a 2 hour drive home that day, I was concerned for her lack of sleep the night before.
She stayed with me till 7.
The next morning, a nurse came in and removed my catheder, and got me up to go to the bathroom, it was not that bad, I felt pretty good, by that evening I was a pro at this. lol. on the second morning a nurse came in to remove the drain that was comeing from just below my hairline, that never hurt either, then on day four my staples were removed, just a few pinches. My mom and Dad came on June18th, ( fathers day) to take me to the airport, I was doing really well tell I said good bye to my parents, then i cried off and on until the next night, since then I have had some minor discomforts.
Two weeks post op now and doing really well. Thanks to all of you wonderful women for past and future post, Stay Safe!!

P.S . I have yet to get the results of the path report, hopefully thay will be ready when I have my six week check up
