Hello everyone!

I had my TAH on Tuesday, July 30th & came home on Thursday Aug. 1st. I have to say that this site helped me out so much with this surgery & what to expect.

I arrived at the hospital at 5:15 a.m. on Tues. morning and checked in. I was put in a gown & allowed to keep my cotton socks on and tucked in a little hospital bed until they were ready for me. I was nervous, but doing ok at that point. A nurse came in and asked the usual questions, Anything to eat since midnight? Any diseases (heart, kidney, etc.) and then I was told that someone would be in to take me to the Pre-op room in a few minutes to do my IV. My husband & mom were allowed to stay with me until it was time to go to Pre-op. I was still calm until the guy came in to get me & got a little teary then, but he said they could walk beside me & say good bye at the pre op door. Then I did start crying when they had to leave.

The Pre op nurse was so nice and comforting. She asked the same questions that the other nurse had and told me she was going to start my IV. She numbed the top of my forearm and I didn't even feel the IV go in. That is the perfect spot for an IV, it didn't bother my hand & I could bend my arm, I never even paid any attention to it the entire time it was in. I was still very nervous but remembered to ask the A man about Zofran and he give me 2 doses in my IV before surgery.

My GYN came in to see me and see if I had any last questions & off we went. I started crying again as I was wheeled down the ever growing colder & darker operating rooms. I moved myself over to the operating table and my nurse put a warm blanket on me and told me I would be ok, they were going to give me something to calm me down and that's the last thing I remember.

I woke up in recover 3 hrs. later in some major pain. I'm not going to lie to anyone, it HURT like nothing else, I've had 2 c-sections and it was a lot worse than those, but they give me a shot in the arm of something & I kind of went out again. I woke up in my room with them trying to have me scoot to the hospital bed, which hurt really bad too, but I managed to do it. I had a binder on, which was wonderful in helping to keep my stomach still.

I was on the morhpine pump, which helped with the pain, but doesn't take it totally away. I did have 2 reactions to the morhpine, the itching, which was just aggrevating, and whenever I would try to go to sleep I would stop breathing just for a minute, so I never got any good rest that day or night. I was put on an oxygen monitor & my levels dropped below what was 'normal' so they put oxygen in my nose & watched me throughout the night.

The next morning at 6 a.m. everything was removed. IV, morhpine, oxygen, & catheter! I was told that it would soon be time to get up. I had a male nurse & my husband helping me get up. That was the worst part of this whole experience. I cried it hurt so bad & wanted my catheter back in! LOL I made it though and my bladder was just VERY slow, start & stop, start & stop. I also managed a shower with the aid of my husband & a shower stool. I felt human again after that & was started on pain meds. I had Lortab & Ibuprofen 800 mg.

I had some good nurses & some witches. My best nurses were on night shift. I felt like on day shift I would be begging for my pain meds when it was time for them, instead of them bringing them on time. I wouldn't see much of them at all, except when I'd call them. I had plenty of help though through my husband and family, but if they hadn't of been there it would have been rough.

My Dr. said they didn't find any endo. but I had a lot of scar tissue (2 c-sections) and that he believed I had adneomyosis(sp), which pathology proved positive. My ovaries were healthy so they were left! He said I may hate him now (because of the pain) but I would feel like a new woman in 6 weeks.

I was released Thursday morning and that was a rough day, I let my pain get away from me, didn't take my pill on time, so that was a lesson learned. Take your pill, even if your not in a great lot of pain!

I am drinking TONS of water & some cranberrry juice and my bladder is getting a little stronger every day. I am taking it easy & I have a lot of help from my husband, mother, and other family & friends.

The waiting is the hardest part, I feel like I'm on the downhill slide now. I am going to do everything the Dr. told me, although he was kind of lenient on some things like light housework! LOL Bummer! I won't be doing any for a while, so that doesn't matter! LOL

Well, I know this is long, thankfully my computer chair reclines and I have the keyboard in my lap. I just wanted to tell my story while it was fresh & hopefully it will help others to relax some & know it will be ok.

I'll check back in later. This thread can be moved with the other stories after everyone has had a chance to read it. Thank you!!
