I was 24 years old when the problems started. I got my period july 11, 1987...and it never stopped. I had repeated injections of depoprovera before and after numerous D&C's and hysteroscopies. I was treated for anaerobis infections with antibiotics because they thought that was causing all the problems. And so the bleeding continued for 22 mos. and all the above mentioned treatments. Then in january of 1989 I was faced with a heartwrenching decision. To have a laser obliteraion of my uterine lining...which they basically burn up the lining of your uterus..or a hysterectomy....both would leave me sterile. With a very strong history of cervical and endometrial cancer in my family I choose the hysterectomy. This was the hardest decision of my life. I was seeing a wonderful man at the time and he helped me throught the pre- and post recovery. I had already had a daughter who at the time of my surgery was 6 y.o. by another man, but my boyfreiind and now my husband was the one who helped me thriugh it all. He was very supportive, even when I tried to push him away. His response to me when I told him that if we stayed together was that he would never have children with me was thea he would never have children with anyone then He loved me, not my uterus!!! And so, 11 years later, with a lot of on going love and support we are now the parents of Loryn, 17 and Patrick age 6. Patrick is our miracle. We met his birth mother right before Thanksgiving in 1993 and he was born that following february. We were very lucky with the adoption and we look back over the past years and realize that there was a hidden blessing. That if we could have our own children, we would of had "a" Patrick, but not the wonderful little boy, Patrick, who fills our families hearts with such love and happiness. And in a small way I am almost glad that I had a hysterectomy at such a young age. For if I didn't I wouldn't Have my son. Thanks for reading and I hope that in some way my satory may show you that there truly are silver linings around the grayest of clouds! Jacqui
