ABC’s of Skin Care after 40

From the Menopause and Hormones Articles List

ABCs of Skin CareAs a teenager, you were religious about your skin. You wanted to look good and definitely didn’t want blemishes to mar your complexion. You washed your face diligently, kept your skin tan, and avoided sweat and dirt.

When you look in the mirror now, you see you’re not a teenager any more. And despite your best efforts, age and menopause have arrived and they’re showing on your skin. Your skin needs some age appropriate help and quickly.

To keep your skin healthy and glowing during menopause, put into practice the following skin care tips.

ABC’s for Healthy Skin

Always use a moisturizer.
Be diligent.
Cut back on salt, sugar, caffeine, and alcohol.
Discuss HRT with your doctor.
Exercise regularly.
Follow a healthy skin care routine.
Get professional help.
Hold off on trying too many new products.
Increase your intake of water.
Jacuzzis, hot tubs, and saunas are out.
Kiss tanning good-bye.
Lean more about menopause and skin changes.
Manage menopause symptoms.
No more short-cuts with skin care.
Opt for cooler showers.
Protect your skin from the sun and weather.
Quit smoking.
Relax and learn to manage stress.
See a dermatologist.
Talk to your doctor about your thyroid.
Use age appropriate skin care products.
Vitamins, supplements, and herbs – ask your doctor which are best for you.
Wash your skin with care.
eXfoliate carefully.
Yo-yo diets are out.
Zzz, zzz, zzz – get plenty of sleep.

As always, work with your doctor to develop a skin care and HRT routine that’s right for your skin type and age. Make sure changes you make are helpful and not harmful for your particular skin care needs.
