Ask A Doctor

I needed to have a TVH due to fibroids and uterine prolapse. My
TVH was done on Thurs. Nov. 7 at 730 a.m. I arrived at 5:30
and had a IV put in. Decided on a spinal with no drowsy medication so I would be alert throughout the operation. I listened to my Stress Free relaxation tape and did deep slow
breathing for 2 1/2 hours and everything went well. The doctors
and nurses and anesthetists all agreed the music was very
calming. I did not take morphine and used pain suppositories
for the first day. The pain was similar to very bad period cramps
for me. I was walking that evening and in the morning my IV,
catheter and packing was taken out and I took a shower by
myself. Other than being a little weak and tired I was OK.
I was able to pass gas Thurs. night already so on Friday I
was back on solids. They said I could leave on Friday afternoon
but I opted to stay till Sat. morning. I did not need to take
any more pain suppositories after Thurs. night. If anybody
is considering taking a spinal while awake I would recommend
the relaxation tape method. All the information I received here
at hystersisters prepared me well for this operation. I went in
knowing exacting what to expect and what I wanted and everything went well! I recommended this site to everyone -
friends, co-workers, doctors, nurses, anesthetists and other
patients. Keep up the good work and many thanks from Canada!
