My journey to hysterland began about 1 year ago when I was experiencing unusally bad periods, bladder leakage, and low back pain. I went to my gyn and after a D&C, pelvic sonagram and a back x-ray I was diagnosed with prolapsed uterus, bladder, rectum and a large cyst on my left ovary(which caused the lower back pain). I was scheduled for a hysterectomy after this news. I am in my forties and was feeling like I was 90 so this was a relief. I immediatley checked the web and found this wonderful site.
After arming myself with all the pre and post op hints from the hyster sisters I was proud as a pumkin when I entered the surgical floor on June 16th, 2000. I was ready and everything was going to work out jusssssst right. I had my doc and the anethesiologist laughing when they saw a funny picture I drew with lipstick on my thigh. Then, all of a sudden I am being transported to my hospital room and the rest of my hospital stay is a blur. I did not like the morpine pump because I was so drowsy I never remembered to push the button. I was sent home with a foley catheter and 16 staples to boot. The first week I lay on the living room sofa. I drank lots of prune juice and water and that helped my bowels and bladder kick in. After 1 week I felt much stronger and after 2 weeks I felt almost normal but very tired. Some of the symptoms I experienced the first 2 weeks were bladder spasms, gas, irregular bowel and bladder movements, pain from everything (took percocet for) for about a week. Week 2 I could go most of the day without pain meds. The 3rd nd 4th week I experienced slight leakage from my incision (which was slight and not heavy) a dry cough and fatigue, The 5th and 6th week I experienced a couple days of belching (sorry) and still the dry cough. The doc said this is all typical for patients who have been under general anesthesia, the lungs and digestive tract adjusting after major shock to the system. I am just entering my 7th week and I feel great. I get very tired by the afternoon but I am enjoying doing things with my kids and feeling like I'm in my early 30's. It takes time, it is very uncomfortable at first but it gets better every day. I was diligent to obey docs orders and rest. Once in awhile I over did it but my body let me know right away. I am on Climara .1 the patch and have not had any menapausal at all. I thank all the sisters in hysterland and especially the creator, Kathy, and the hostesses who give there time to us. Love you all!!! Judy
