Thanks to this website, the two wonderful doctors I had, a wonderful husband :inlove:, and a deep faith in God, my TAH/BSO on July 10 was a resounding success.

I had uterine fibroids for years, and lived with the almost constant bleeding, cramps and discomfort. I was referred to a new GYN, who did an ultrasound and found "something" on my left ovary. After all the tests and agony of waiting, I was told by my gyn oncologist that the chances of cancer were around 10% and he would be in the OR with me and my GYN.

Surgery went well, and when I saw a picture of what they took out of me, I swear it had hair, teeth and a deep voice . No cancer, which was wonderful news, so I focused on getting better and stronger. The first couple of days were sleepy and pretty much pain-free even though I had a PCA pump for pain meds (I didn't use it all that much). I went home 3 days after the surgery, and took my vitamins, (recommended by my oncologist) A, C and a good multi. My husband was home with me for a week, and made sure I had nutritious meals, even though I didn't really get my appetite back for several days after I got home. When my staples were removed, I had a severe reaction to the steristrips that he put on the incision (itching, blisters, really uncomfortable!) but that was the worst thing that happened.

I spiked a low grade fever for a few days at home, but was told that was pretty normal. I made sure I rested, rested, rested--no driving for two weeks, no lifting or pushing anything heavy, all of that. By the third week I was walking and getting out of the house, doing some visiting and errands. By week 5 it was pretty much back to normal, except no strenuous exercise or sex, and when the doctor released me on August 19th it was no surprise.

I'm on 2mg of oral Estrace, and have had zero menopausal symptoms. I insisted on natural estrogen, as the resources I consulted here on this website and elsewhere convinced me that was the way to go.

I am now a new woman--sex is great (as it was before, maybe better!) , my tummy's now nice and flat , and I gave away my warehouse of sanitary supplies to my three neices with much ceremony! My healing process was helped, I believe, by eating right, vitamin supplementation, getting LOTS of rest, and the support of the wonderful sisters on this website!!
