I recently had my hysterectomy, and I am itching all over. My ears, my head, my legs and my incision. I kind of think it is dry skin. Does it have something to do with the surgery? I have been using vitamin E for the scar and it is helping there. Do you have any ideas?
Many things can contribute to itchy skin after a surgery. Along with normal post-op surgery itches, you might be experiencing a change in hormone levels. Hormone surges cause hot flashes, which can feel like itching too. Any pain medications (especially containing codeine) that you are taking can also cause itching. That’s a lot of itching!
Here are some suggestions to help ease the itching:- Lather lotions all over your body.
- Take a bath in “Aveeno®” to soothe the itching. (Check with doctor about a bath)
- Benadryl is very helpful for itching.
Be sure and check with your physician if the itching continues and for recommendations for products for you.
