I know this sounds weird, but since my surgery I keep waking up in the middle of the night from upsetting and scary nightmares. Is this normal? Is this from the surgery?
Vivid dreams and nightmares are common after any major surgery. The anesthesia you were administered in the hospital, your post-op medication, and the physical trauma of the operation can all be contributing factors. With a hysterectomy, hormonal upheaval may also be a likely culprit.
If you were not troubled by frequent nightmares before having your hysterectomy, you should discover that as the weeks pass this problem abates. If the problem lingers several months post-op, you should feel comfortable in discussing the problem with your doctor.
