Princess Lucee's Story

Hello to all of my Hyster Sisters!

I had my surgery on 11/3 and I'm still resting, resting, resting. Since my uterus was too high, I had to have an abdominal. Lucky, lucky me though, no stitches OR staples. My great doctor gave me a "bikini cut" and closed the outside with steristrips! (I still giggle about the "bikini" cut, I haven't worn one of those since high school!) They didn't hurt at all to have removed either! That's the only "good" thing about having to have an abdominal; that baby hurt ladies!!! I guess the proper language for my surgery is TAH/BIRCH. They also did a little bladder work while there. I did keep my ovaries and part of the cervix. She found a large polyp (sp) on the upper portion of my cervix, so she only removed part of it. Other than the lingering pain, I feel great.

OK, now the particulars...............

The reason for my two periods a month was that there was a "huge" fibroid in the uterus. Besides the polyp on my cervix, they also found a "very large bloody cyst" on my right ovary, and a growth on the bowel. My daughter said, "Geez Mom! You were growing a regular ol' garden in there!!" Luckily, everything was benign. I thank God for that! Now it's just a matter of rest, rest, rest. With this being my second week home, my daughter is coming home from work at noon every day and that seems to be working out for us. Going up and down the stairs to get refreshment is proving to be a challenge so I'm not doing that much. My hubby brought up the small ice chest with my juice and iced tea today, so I'll stay upstairs for as long as I need.

One of the biggest problems I had was that the surgical team neglected to put me on the PAC as ordered by my doctor. (That's the machine that allows the patient to self medicate) The first nurse I asked about this when I got to my room was extremely RUDE and said "We don't do that for hyst patients". My reply was an equally rude "BS my doctor ordered one for me". When I was wheeled into my room I was sobbing with pain, which only made it worse.

When the pain got even worse that evening, the night nurses called my doctor and she told them that I was supposed to be on the PAC. After that, everything went as expected. I loved not having to get out of bed to go to the bathroom! As soon as they removed my catheter, everything went smoothly with that as well. The second day after surgery, I ran a fever all night and through the next day, but that was nothing to worry about. My last day in the hospital, I woke up very ill. My stomach was so upset; I couldn't eat anything so I almost had to stay an extra day. They gave me an injection, and I slept awhile. Everything was fine, and I got to come home on Friday, the 6th.

Well, that's all of Luann's hysterectomy story, and now it's rest, rest, and more rest, and when I'm done with that, rest some more.

My sitting time has expired, so I'll catch up later.

God Bless All!!

Luann
