Author's Welcome and Introduction
Welcome to the Land of Hyster! In the summer of 1998, after carefully weighing all my options with my doctor, I was admitted to the hospital and at the hands of an excellent surgeon had a total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral oopherectomy. My recovery was quite ordinary in many respects. But, as an avid internet junkee, I surfed the world wide web for any and all information I could get my hands on in order to learn all about my "new" body. I happened on a message board online for "Hysterectomy Recovery" and soon met many other women around the globe who were experiencing the same thing I was! Every day as I healed from the surgery, I went to the message board where I would read what other women were feeling about their own recoveries and I would post questions of my own. Soon the women on that board became my friends. And soon, to soothe the awkwardness of the changes we were all experiencing I began to write fairy tales to "answer" a question or communicate frustration but in a way to bring a grin and perhaps a chuckle or two. And so I created the Land of Hyster with a wonderful King and the land full of loving Hyster Sisters: Ladies in Waiting and Punctured Princesses.
With the fairy tales and archived information from the Hyster Sisters, I launched this website in the summer of 1998. Months added message boards, a calendar to post surgical dates, and finally the Hyster Sisters Store.
Women then asked for a book version of the website, and so with information from the website, plus a whole lot more, I found a publisher.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit with the Hyster Sisters. Enjoy your visit. And perhaps, if the website has helped you, please stop by the Hyster Sisters store. By ordering the book or a t-shirt or nightshirt, you are supporting the best hysterectomy recovery site on the net! Or by upgrading your membership to be a Crown Jewel you are helping to keep this website free!
And we'll all live happily ever after and be hormonally balanced forever!
Blessings galore from the Land of Hyster,
Kathy
