I am a 42 yr old wife and Mom.. I do Home Health Care for sick and elderly people. I have been married for 7 years to the love of my life, my soul mate.

My problems started when I was 17 years old with heavy bleeding and cramping with every period. When I was 18 I had a tubal pregnancy which ended me up in the operating room, while there, my Dr found adhesions all over inside of me. And he figured it was all due to the fact that at 12 my appendix ruptured. So, not only did he take my right fallopian tube, he took out alot of adhesions. Which cured my cramping for a bit. I was married at that time and tried to get pregnant again, but to no avail. And then along with the infertility I began having the cramping. Back to Dr's office for numerous testing and procedures. I had another laparotomy in 1986 to remove once again adhesions and this time they were all over my bowels, my female organs and it was a mess. I ended up getting pregnant a year after that and had a daughter. With the pregnancy and breastfeeding, and no periods, I didn't have the cramping etc when the periods did come back. And had another child in 1991. Shortly after he was born I had the cramping return. And had a laparoscopy, once again to remove adhesions. And another baby in 1995, another laparoscopy to remove adhesions.

In 1997, shortly after marrying my DH, I started to bleed and bleed and cramp. My Dr told me if I was done having children that a hysterectomy was the answer. However, the night before my insurance cancelled it saying that they wanted me to have an endo biopsy, which I did. And also, to be put on meds to put me into menopause and stop my bleeding for six months and I refused to do that. So, for the last 5 years I have been suffering with cramps, heavy bleeding and painful intercourse, midcycle spotting, you name it. A year ago, after six months of bleeding 20 days out of the month and back aches and headaches and misery I went and asked my Dr what can I do. She told me this time the insurance could not deny me since I have High Blood Pressure and cannot take any of the meds to control the bleeding. My surgery was scheduled and within the month I was in the hospital.

I had a very uneventful TVH. Went in on a Tuesday morning, had surgery at 10, out of recovery by 1 and the pain wasn't that bad. I went home the next afternoon per my request and have never felt better. Once I recovered. It is a choice that I do not regret in the least. I kept my ovaries and altho they did go into shock and took awhile to wake up, they are working now.

My Dr not only found adhesions all over the place, but endo, adeno, fibroids, and I did have an ovarian cyst that she was able to remove. I am so thankful to Hystersisters as I have come to this site so many times for help, guidance and just plain support throughout the last 9 months.
