Ask A Doctor
Hi, I'm Em. I am a 55 yo widow and I do vounteer work with the elderly in my community.
In late 1999 I had an abnormal pap smear. The next year seemed to be filled with various tests and procedures. In September, 1999 my doctor suggested a TAH/BSO. Since I was already postmenopausal and on ERT, taking the ovaries was not an issue for me. I found this site about 2 weeks before my surgery.
My visits to the Pre-op forum were totally consumed with getting ready for the surgery. I knew I wanted to be in my own home. I started a thread about "home alone" and I got a tremendous number of responses with very good suggestions. I followed the advice and had a very easy recovery. Without Hystersisters it would have been much different, as the only instructions I got was that little paper they give you at discharge on which they check off "can do" or "cannot do" for activities.
It wasn't until I got a copy of my path report and I saw the term "CIS" for the first time that I started visiting the Cancer Concerns board. The ladies there welcomed me and helped me with all my questions and concerns.
I started posting at Hysteritaville when I decided that I wanted to lose weight. I joined a group of ladies who were doing a "buddy thing". Gradually my emphasis changed from just losing weight to healthy eating and exercise. The group grew and Kathy offered to give us our own sub forum............B.E.S.T. Sisters! We have a wonderful group of ladies who totally support each other in every way. I consider them all my friends. Kathy recently asked me to serve as a hostess at Hysteritaville and I was honored to accept.
Kathy says that this is the best Hysterectomy site on the web. I have no doubt that she is right. I have no basis for comparison because this is the first one I came to and never had any reason to go elsewhere. It just boggles my mind to think about how much time and effort must go into keeping this site running.
