Welcome to Hystersisters!

Hi! My name is Jeanine. I live in Indiana where I was born and raised near Lake Michigan. I am 39 years old and have been married to my wonderful husband for 16 years. We have 6 terrific children together—3 boys (ages 15, 8, and 4) and 3 girls (ages 14, 11, and 9). My life is very busy trying to keep up with all of them, and I like it that way! My husband’s primary occupation is that of full-time Dad, while I work full-time as a physical therapist. I work with children who are Deaf and/or disabled.

I had my first abnormal PAP when I was 23 years old. It was taken care of with a cone biopsy and all went well for 10 years. Then the abnormal PAP’s returned and I had two cervical freezings about two years apart. In December 2000 (after two years of normal PAP’s) I had another abnormal PAP that showed atypical glandular cells. The biopsy was normal. At the suggestion of the gyn/onc, I had a LEEP and D&C. At the same time, I asked my gynecologist to repair a vaginal tear that wouldn’t seem to stay healed. The biopsy reports from those procedures showed cervical and vaginal squamous cell carcinoma-in-situ (stage 0 cancer). In February 2001, I had a TAH and additional vaginal resection, so I had both abdominal and vaginal incisions. OUCH! But I got to keep my ovaries for a few more years of natural hormones. I was lucky and the cells had not spread beyond the top layer, so no additional treatment was required.

It’s very easy to feel alone and afraid when going through all of this, but you don’t have to go through this alone. The support I’ve found at Hystersisters has helped me through some of the most difficult times in my life, and I am pleased and honored to return the favor by serving as one of the hostesses on the Cancer Concerns forum. So, welcome! Thank you for sharing a part of your life with us.
