Hello from West Central Missouri, My name is Karlene and I am thrilled to be helping out in the Aching Hearts Forum, anxious to give back a small portion of what I have recieved.
I am 45 and the proud mom of two very handsome young men, 27 and 24, who get their looks from their father and their brain from their mom! My husband Joe and I have six, yes I said six, siamese cats that came along after the youngest left home. They are my "empty nest" children and we love them as such.
Thirteen years ago I was a stay at home mom and a friend asked me to help her in her house cleaning buisness. I could work while the boys were in school and be home before them and make a little money. That evolved rather quickly into my own buisness, but I still have time to do the things I love, such as, walk, tend my vegetable garden, and clean my own house.
About three years ago I started out with a general achiness, bladder always feeling full, lower back ache, cramping during ovulation and occasional passing of blood clots the size of my hand. Gyn sent me to a urologist who in turn found two kidney stones lodged in my right kidney and decided it was best to leave them rather then cause scar tissue by breaking them up. He was sure this was my sole problem and I needed to "live with it" So I did. Then in Nov. of 2001, I woke in the night with blood soaking the sheets, and me. I headed for the shower while DH stripped sheets. Dh said, " enough". My gyn of 24 years had retired so they sent me to a partner. She says, "wait a year , but return to the urologist and have those stones x-rayed, I think they have grown and are the cause of your problems." Urologist writes letters to GP, old Gyn and the new Gyn, by now I knew I needed another opinion. New Gyn takes one look at the ultra sound and says, " you have no choice but to have a hysterectomy, right ureter is cut off from production, seven fibroids the size of tennis balls."
My surgery was 1-15-02 and I can finally say, " I feel better then I have in years." I should have gotten a second or third or fourth opinion three years ago. I knew I was in pain and ignored it.
I think I was 4 weeks post -op when I went looking for something, anything on the process of recovery when I found Hystersisters. The pull down menues saved my sanity. I needed to know that all my little aches and pains were normal or did I need to call the Dr. The sisters encouraged me to call when I had a UTI and when the bladder spasms hit I found information on what to do. I recieved "discipline' when I went back to work and did too much and always delivered with a hug.
I appreciate the woman to woman format as I was able to talk about the death of my middle child , the death of a friend and received understanding where there is usually silence. So my dear sisters, if you need a shoulder, a listening ear, or maybe just a hug, stop by the Aching Hearts forum where we keep the tea on at all times.
