Dear Sisters...

I so appreciate having the honor to be able to volunteer on the Aching Hearts board. I am humbled by all of you and the kindness, support and integrity that you show to other women 24 hours a day, every day of the year..

I had an emergency TAH on May 4, 2000. The surgery was done because I was in shock due to severe anemia caused by fibroids. I also had an elevated CA125, an abnormal PAP and tremendous pain. Since that time, due to a lot of stress and heavy lifting (literally and figuratively) I've developed a huge inguinal hernia and a prolapsed bladder. I am having those corrected surgically at the end of May, almost a year to the day of my hyst.

A little about me - I am the Executive Director of the National Conference for Community and Justice, founded in 1927 as The National Conference of Christians and Jews. Our mission is to fight bias, bigotry and racism through education, advocacy and conflict resolution.

I am also a freelance writer, a Brownie leader and do a lot of public speaking on issues related to domestic violence, adoption and prejudice reduction.

I am married to Michael. He is a high school Chemistry teacher and a part time Cantor. He is the love of my life. I have two daughters. My older daughter is a graduate of the University of Arizona, just married and working with abused kids in Phoenix. I gave birth to Lynn when I was 17. She is my pride and joy. We went through difficult struggles just trying to survive while she was growing up and I am so proud of the woman she has become.

Of course, it's easy to become pregnant at 16. Later on it's a different story. My younger daughter is Rachel, who turns eight in June. After years of struggling with infertility and a horrific miscarriage, my husband and I adopted Rachel from Paraguay when she was six months old. She is the child who "grew in my heart" and we love her deeply. I hope I can be a source of support for other women struggling with the loss of fertility and finding resolution through the miracle of adoption.

I will try to provide the comfort, education and solace to others that Hystersisters has provided to me. Special thanks and a curtsey to Kathy for starting it all.

Peace and blessings,

CherylK
