Hi, Hystersister Cris here! I helped out on the Beyond the Hyst message forum. I also helped keep track of the calendars (surgery and birthdays) and the map. I also respond to some of the women who signed our guestbook. I am 48 years old, married nearly 30 years to a wonderfully supportive gentleman. I have three sons, a 28 yr old, a 16 yr old and a 14 yr old. I am a staff accountant with a law firm that specializes in like-kind exchanges of shopping malls, airliners, hotels, and other multi-million dollar properties for Fortune 500 companies. I live in a southeastern suburb of Boston.
I have done a variety of things over the years, including teaching tap, jazz, ballet, and acrobatics. I enjoy handicrafts, but have no time for them anymore! I love gardening, and combine my veggies and flowers, with bird watching. I adore the hummingbirds, butterflies, and dragonflies that visit my garden. Even though my kids are getting into the mid-teenage years, I am still a soccer mom. My Tony is a soccer goalie, and has been to Massachusetts State Finals the last two years in a row. The first year, his team placed third in the state.
I have had years of female problems, but my complaints always fell on the deaf ears of my gyn. I attributed all of my increasing problems to age, and thought that it would soon be over, since I am quickly approaching 50. I really thought that all women were suffering the same way I was.
Imagine my surprise when I was rushed to the hospital, and pronounced full of fibroids. The doctor told me I had too many large fibroids to really consider any alternative treatments. She performed an ultrasound, and showed me how the megafroids had pushed my grossly enlarged uterus up higher than my bellybutton, squishing all my internal organs against my heart. That incontinence I thought was part of my aging process was really the fibroids pushing into my bladder. Still, I said no operation, and walked out.
I immediately headed straight home to do some Internet research. The first site I found was HysterSisters, and I knew I stumbled into my second home. I spent days reading every word on that old board of ours. There were hundreds of threads, and I read each and every one of them, so much information, how could I process it all! By the time I finished reading, I knew what I had to do. I called the doctor back and asked that she schedule a hysterectomy as soon as possible. I had my tah/bso on September 14, 1999.
I never did look for any other sites. HysterSisters felt like family. Here was a group of women who understood. They laughed and cried together. They cheered each other up, and they cheered each other on! They welcomed me like an old friend returning, offering raspberry teas on lots of shoulders to rest my head on.
When LisaM was going to the castle the week before I was scheduled to go, I immediately offered to fill-in for her, posting the names of all Ladies in Waiting who would be going to the Castle each day. It felt so good to give something back that I kept volunteering to help in any way I could. The rest is history. I have received so much from the sisters here that I will remain as long as I can be of help to even one other woman.
My family webpage is located at www.geocities.com/n1xyl .I change it frequently, so feel free to drop by often.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
