Hello Ladies! I'm Cyd, a nickname which has stuck with me since junior high school, and I have been hostessing here since December 99'. I just turned 37 this year, 2001, am married and have two children. My son is in the 8th grade, and my dd is currently a sophomore in high school who will graduate in 2004. I have truly learned this year that raising a teenager is a very difficult task; one that requires a lot of patience, love, and Tylenol!!! I am a stay at home mom who loves just that...to stay at home! I also love to make people smile and brighten their day, even if I have to make a fool out of myself to get them to do so!
I feel very blessed for what I have and for my loving husband who has helped me to raise my children since they were both very young! I have quite a few fishtanks in the house as well as a 4000 gallon pond stocked with fish in the back yard which my husband and I put in ourselves. Hubby and I are always doing some kind of a project together and I enjoy working side by side with him! I also have a little Shih-tzu dog and three Siberian Huskies all of which are my babies. I live on the Eastern shore of Maryland, hate the humidity, and long for more snow than what we normally do get! My life, when I am not in the Hystersister website or Friends Without Faces website (another site where I hostess which was also started by Kathy Kelley), is totally centered around my family and pets.
I first found this loving place in the summer of 99'. I had never really experienced any female problems, except for severe menstrual cramps which were resolved by birth control pills when I was younger. In the spring of 99' I went to the Gyn for a typical pap and the results came back "high squamous", which is a nice way of saying cancer. I then had another pap and also a biopsy which all showed the same results. My hyst was scheduled for October, and I had a pretty normal recovery with a diagnosis of "Carcinoma in Situ"; Cervical Cancer.
Considering my age, being on birth control, as well as a smoker and not wanting to expand our family; a hysterectomy was not frowned upon. I was terrified because the only time that I had been a patient in a hospital was to give birth! I turned to the Internet for some advice or answers. I was so confused and in shock of the whole cancer issue. My eyes fell upon the Hystersister site and I was hooked immediately!! I did a lot of reading for the first week or so, and then I began to type an occasional post...which lead into more and more. Before you knew it, I was posting everyday and then I received an email from Kathy asking me to be a hostess! I was honored to have been chosen and I still feel very blessed to be given the chance to help others, just as they all had helped me when I needed it the most!
Currently I host the "Friends without Faces-Live Chat" where I can let my hair down and share laughs and anything personal not really related to having a hysterectomy. Having 2 teenagers in the house, I am very glad that I have a place like that to call home! I also host the "Beyond the Land of Hyster" forum where our old friends are never forgotten and often drop by to let us all know how the they are doing, the "Cancer Concerns" forum where I can help to ease the mind of other cancer patients and help them to prepare themselves for what may lie ahead, and I host the "Prayer Requests For Hystersisters" forum since without the Lord we would have never met! My prayer time has increased dramatically since I have so many new friends to include!
As you may have guessed by the boards, I am a hostess; I am a person who is not only willing to laugh and crack a good joke, but also someone who will cry right along with you when you are hurting and want to help in anyway that I can.
I truly hope that this site is as rewarding to you as it has been to me in the past....Take care!! Cyd (TVH 10-22-99)
