How long does this weariness last post-op? I get tired doing very little and I'm worried because I go back to work in 1 and 1/2 weeks.

I was scheduled for an LSH and my doc called today to tell me that due to that darn recall they are having problems getting the instrument to do the LSH.

So, I can either cancel, or switch to SAH. I think this is the right abbreviation. I'm keeping cervix and ovaries, but would have to have the abdominal incisision rather than the smaller laparoscopic ones.

This is assuming they can't get the instrument, which they are still trying to do at this point, but basically want an answer now, because if I cancel, they can fill my slot with someone else.

I already have everything all arranged, except with the SAH I wouldn't be able to go back to work as I expected which is an issue, but work is willing to accomodate with me working from home instead of the office.

I don't want to wait, because I would have to put it off until next summer, or possibly this time next year if I do, but I really wanted the LSH based on all my research. My doc did say that they do not cut muscle and my incision would be small with the SAH, but I'm just not sure I want to do this.

So, I guess I am looking for info from those who did SAH keeping ovaries and cervix. What would you do? How bad was it? Do you have staples or stitches, or is it just glued? When were you up and about?

I am having a tough time. Thought I would turn here for some advice. I had my LAVH 9/24. And I have been fine with it, improving the quality of life, and no birth control again...all great things. BUT, I seem to be having some kind of problems subconciouslly.
I have had the worst nighmares and dreams the last two weeks. Mainly about being pregnant, having a baby, and breastfeeding the baby. When all of a sudden someone walks in and rips the baby away from me. And I am left screaming and crying. And waking up, crying, remembering every detail. My sleep has been affected a lot by it, have had insomnia before surgery, and now its even worse, with the use of Ambien. I seem to be having more anxiety issues going on then ever before. And everything is ok, until I fall asleep. Then all the bad dreams and crying begin. I am only 27, and yes we do have two beautiful healthy children, but even though we had not planned on any more children, its so hard now because I know I CANT have any more. Even if there was a chance we wanted to some day. Im not sure. Just looking for some positive words of advice. Thanks ladies! :friend:

I am 44 years old and have been fighting heavy & very painful periods (fibroids) for 10 years now. I am scheduled to have my TAH (hoping to keep one ovary) on Dec. 17th. I just had a D&C and hysteroscopy yesterday; dr wants to make sure that he knows exactly what's going on in there before he does the surgery. I also have a history of breast cancer; I was diagnosed about 14 years ago (at age 31) and had a mastectomy and reconstruction. So no HRT for me.

I have been "lurking" for a couple of weeks now and am so happy that there is a site like this available. I have learned much and am sure to learn more. Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for putting together such a great site with reliable information and compassionate people. :friend:

I am new to Hyster Sisters. What a great resource for those of us comtemplating surgery, preparing for it, or recovering from it.

I was told earlier this year that I needed a TAH including the removal of my ovaries. But the timing was tough. My mom became ill and everything else was pushed aside. She is better now and both my parents have moved to my city so we are closer and can stay on top of her health issues. Then I was getting married in September and even though my doctor wanted to do the surgery before the wedding in August, I just couldn't see how I could plan and prepare for the wedding after surgery. So now I finally had the surgery and I am glad that I did it.

I had a TAH on 11/13/09...Friday the 13th. I was discharged from the hospital on Monday the 16th and am recovering from home.

I am surprised by how much pain I feel. I knew that this was major surgery, but didn't quite appreciate or understand how much pain would be involved.

My surgeon's office called yesterday to check on me and I mentioned that pain is my number one concern. I am on vicodin 5-500 every 4 hours. She said to call them back today if I am not better. I am not better. So I just called and left a message for a return call. I am hoping that I can get a different type of medication that can address the searing pain I feel in my lower belly every time that I move significantly. Small things like rising out of bed or getting back into bed simply take my breath away.

I have a follow up appointment on Monday afternoon, but didn't want to go through the weekend in this type of pain. I have read several articles on this site that discuss the length of time it might take to fully recover. All I can say is that I am personally experiencing that and hope and pray that my recovery will accelerate over the next few weeks.

Good luck to those of you out there who are also recovering. I wish you comfort and patience and a sense of peace.

It has taken me forever to get a date!! First my gyn was on vacation, now my urologist (for the cystocele being repaired at the same time) is on vacation. I started this process 2 years ago and finally said "enough is enough" in September when the bleeding and pain was unbearable. It's not at the hospital I was hoping to be in, but at this point I'm in so much agony I don't care WHERE they do it as long as it gets done.

I'm 32 and feel kinda strange to be looking forward to having a hysterectomy. I'm not looking forward to having the surgery...just looking forward to the relief it will hopefully bring.

Quick question for those who have had a TVH - any chance I could be back to work a week or two after surgery? My official title is secretary, but basically I sit and watch police videos all day, so it's not like I'd be up running around.

Hi everyone,

I've visited this site several times since learning I will have to undergo a hysterectomy at the tender, childless age of 38(leaving the ovaries, not sure about the cervix). I've named my large fibroid RB (short for Rosemary Baby) b/c auth of my doc its as large as a baby. It's growing off the back of my uterus and has reached the middle of my abdominal area (up near the belly button). Here are a couple of the questions I have -
1. How can it be the size of a full term fetus when it only measures 12cm x ??cm x 10 cm? I don't understand that part.

2. Has anyone felt what seems like their pulse in the area of their fibroid? I can feel my fibroid when I lay on my stomach and sometimes I can feel my pulse in that area. Meaning I can feel it internally (I can't feel it with my fingers, but I feel it on the inside). I know strange.

Just looking for a little guidance here from people who've experienced fibroids and undergone the surgery.

Thanks in advance!
Tammy

Hi hystersisters,

I had a total hysterectomy and taken enjuvia .625 for 4 months. The Dr didn't say anything about checking hormone levels. Do I need to? Is insomnia related to low or high estrogen?
I have been fatigued, mostly from lack of sleep I think. I can fall asleep but wake up at 2-3 am and then can't go back to sleep. A million thoughts race thru my mind at that time that are not really important. Something someone said to me, something I wish to do, any and every thought that doesn't bother me during the daytime. I find myself thinking the same thoughts over and over and wonder why but can't stop it and go back to sleep. Sometimes it gets to bad I get out of bed and walk in the hallway for a good half an hour feeling restless with a sudden burst of energy.
Hot flashes..sometimes yes, but not severe.
Bending over is still painful.. is this normal?
