Article: Exercise - Stationary Bike for Weight Loss?

I have been struggling with my weight since my hysterectomy.

I started on the treadmill back in Oct. and by the end of Jan. I was really bored with it. Now I am riding a stationary bike.

how long do I need to ride it each day to lose weight and which do you think is better for overall health or are they about the same?

Thanks

Tea Lady,
Thanks for posting this.

I believe that a person will lose weight if they eat less than their output, energy wise. IE energy in vs energy out. The mode is really secondary. We have different modes of exercise so that our body will continue to react to exercise rather than adapt. We also have different modalities because we become bored. Our muscles would not be balanced if all we ever did was ride a bike or walk.

The best thing for our body is to have many different types of exercise that we engage in.
Personally I prefer a bike. A recumbant bike. That is where the pedals are in front of you rather than underheath you. You get a lot more gluteal work from one of these.

As you pedal make sure your spine has good alignment. Hold those abdominals in tight. To increase intensity for the upper body you can use light weights( no more than 5#) and do bicep curls, anterior(front) straight arm lifts, lateral(side) lifts and shoulder presses. Be creative! Just be safe!

If you like what you are doing you are more likely to continue thru to see yourself to your goal.

In order to get maximal benefits from your aerobic exercise you need to maintain your target heart rate for a minimum of 30 minutes. That means a total of 40 minutes. You need at least 5 min to warm up and 5 min to cool down.

HEY JEN!

It is ssooooooooo good to "see" you

Can you believe we are coming up on the 2 yr mark?

I have been doing WW points for a couple of weeks and so far I really like it.

I am sorry to hear about the trouble you have had with your ligaments and heel spurs OUCH! and I hope you are feeling much better soon. ((((((((((hugs)))))))))

I hope that fitbug will see your post and can help with some exercises you can be doing that won't be too strenuous.

Take care hyster twin =)

thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jenfur,
It is great to see you! I have missed you and think of you often.

I am sorry to hear about your foot. Foot problems can really hamper the ability to lose weight thru exercise.

YOur best bet is thru an exercise bike. It is a no impact activity therefore possibly not further damaging your foot. As your foot heals you can venture out into other exercises.

I would also like to suggest you try Pilates. It is a strengthening and stretching workout. Wee if you can find a video and give it a try.
My very best to you!
Hugs,
Jody
