Article: Motivation - I love those walking tapes!!

Hi Ladies,
I just purchased the Leslie Sanson Walk Away the Pounds VHS tapes, and I am really thrilled with the workout.

I believe a few of the ladies here have them as well, but for those that are not familiar with them, its a 3 tape set consisting of a 1 mile, 2 mile and 3 mile walk that can be done right in front of your TV. She adds side steps, knee lifts and kicks to the walk as well. The set comes with 2 ball weights that are 2 pounds each which are used at various times during the workout.

The very best part of this besides the fact that you do it in your own home whenever its convenient for you is that the time goes by so quickly. The 1 mile is 18 minutes, the 2 mile tape is 30 minutes and the 3 mile tape is 47minutes. The set also includes 14 meal planning cards and recipes.

I also like that she adds the arms into it as well with or without the weights. Its walking in ways that most would not walk outside, so you get the benefit of the walk, and the added use of other muscles.

I did a product review search on these, and I have found alot of good reviews and great results listed as well. Everyone who has tried them, seems to like them alot.

So...I just wanted to post on these, and would love to hear how others who may have them are doing!

Sounds like fun! Especially that you can do it your own home if the weather is yucky or you have different work hours and come home in the dark etc. Good luck on the program.

I have the tapes and I think they're great....particularly for busy women who have a problem finding the time for a workout. I think my weight balls are 1 lb each, but whatever they are, they definitely add to the experience.

EM

At what point post-op is it safe to begin these tapes?

Diana

-----

Hi Diana,
I think this would defintely have to be discussed with your doctor as these tapes are not just regular walking. There are 2 pound weights included and used with part of the workout as well. Although its walking in place, its more of an aerobic walking, with lots of knee lifts, kicks, upper body work etc. I know general walking is very good for recovery, but this really is a workout tape so to be sure it would be best to check on it.

I hope your recovery is going well for you!!

I found the set of three tapes at Sam's Club and they were a bargain - either $24 or $17 (sorry, just can't remember which). They came with the weights, too.
Has anyone tried Leslie's audiotapes for walking outdoors? I have the intermediate and advanced 'Walking for Everybody' and enjoy them very much.
Susan

-----

Hi Susan,

I'm also interested in the "walking outdoor tapes." I live in AZ where temps are now reaching the 90's but, I love to walk. I think I could walk from AZ to CA without a problem. Anyway...any site I can look this information up & where I can purchase them? I need the motivation right now.

Thanks,

Sister Katie
(these boots are make for walking....remember that song)?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but are these tapes used when walking on a treadmill? It wasn't mentioned, and I guess I can't imagine walking in place for 3 miles??? How does it work? I might be interested in this. Thanks for the information!

Debbie

-----

Debbie,
The audios would be good with a treadmill, but the videos have moves that wouldn't work...sideways, forward, back. They also use hand-held weights, which I wouldn't try (but that's just me -totally uncoordinated).

Katie,
I got my tapes online from Barnes and Noble for $9.98 each. It was quite a long wait for them. There are three levels ( I skipped the beginner). The tapes are I guess what you'd call canned music with Leslie setting the pace when it switches. They work for me - turned Death-by-gasping-and-wheezing-Hill to Oh-that-little-thing.

It's great you love walking so much!
Keep those feet moving.

Susan

I have just ordered the tapes and now can't wait till I get them. I am sure that I will love them too. I will let you know how I make out. Happy walking to all!!!

I am so glad you are getting them as well. I truly think they are addicting. I have walked more in my livingroom with these tapes in the past 2 weeks than I have outside for the past year!! The aerobic moves she puts into them helps alot I think as well. Last night I was thinking I wouldn't bother doing it, then I thought, hey its only 30 minutes....I would just be sitting on the sofa for the next 30 minutes anyway, so I got up put in the tape, and did my 2 miles, and got a whole second burst of energy!
Can't wait to hear how you like them !!

Hi all,

I got the tapes today and I tried the one mile one right away. My son (who is 10) and I popped it in the VCR and we loved it. I used the weights that came with it and he just copied the movements (you know kids, they love to copy us) and before I knew it we were done. I am way out of shape . I will stick to the one mile one for awhile, but it is so much fun in my opinion. I got mine from http://www.qvc.com .

I need to lose weight and I think it is good for my son to do as well. The kids these days just want to sit in front of the tv or video games. It is something we can enjoy doing together, he just loved doing it with me. I will post again to let you know how I am making out.

Hi ladies,

I recieved my walking tapes 1 week ago---just finished doing the 1 mile one--great place for me to start. I ordered mine from a site that was listed in one of the posts from BEST. Only took about 5 days to come. Interested in outside tape for summer.

I'm so happy to see this thread. I've been doing these tapes since Halloween, thanks to Em who recommended them.
I love them. I'm 55 years old and have never exercised regularly in my life. I do the 3 mile - 5 times a week. I didn't actually read her instructions until I'd been using them for a couple months, so I don't do it like she says (changing distances each day).

I like them because it isn't annoying music or an annoying, cutesy host - and the people walking with her look like real people.

I got them from QVC for $35, but have since seen them at Sam's for $25 (I think).

Hi Maria...Walk Away the Pounds has become my exercise of choice also. This has worked out really well for me. I pop the tape in as soon as I get home from work and do it first thing before dinner. I am really feeling strong! Started with the 1 mile tape and did that until I felt strong doing it. I am now doing the 2 mile tape sometimes 2 times a day.

I agree with you...the time goes by so quickly and I think it's really fun to do! I love the weighted balls. For the first time in my life I am seeing some definition in my arms and can really tell I am stronger.

Good luck with this Maria! For me this is the only exercise I have ever done that I trully look forward to doing each day!

I just bought these tapes at Sports Authority for
$29.99. The weighted balls that were included are
water based. The directions said you can also buy a
2 lbs. weight.

I am able to walk three miles outside, so I wondered
whether or not I should just start at the three mile tape.
I decided to start at the one mile, and I am glad I did!
The added weights with the arm movements had my
arms tired! I also lift dumbells, so again I thought this
would be a breeze. Wrong! I have humbled myself, and
now I will stay with the one mile tape this week, and
maybe move on to the 2 mile next week. I think it will
pay off to start slowly. I also love this tape! It is already
in the 90's here, so I found these tapes at a good time!

Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in! I bought the tapes as I have chronic hip/back pain and my neighborhood is in the base of the mountains and the major hills were too much strain!

I love them too! I got mine at Media Play - the 3 tape set by itself (no weights or recipe stuff) for $19.95 and I also saw it at Sam's Club for a couple dollars less. I just use my own hand weights (which were very inexpensive) and it works out great!

I have done several of Leslies walking tapes. They are all pretty good. If you want a little more of a workout, try her walk aerobics tape. Has 3 sessions. 1mi, 1 1/2 mi and another 1 1/2 mi. All together its 4 miles. It adds moves that make it more aerobic than just walking, but it's easy to follow. She also has some where she uses the ball weights. I use this tape now to add another day of aerobics to my other workouts. Leslie Sansone is the one that got me back in shape after the hysterectomy at 6 weeks. Its great. By the way, Collage Videos carries all of her videos, along with every kind of workout video there is. They have a web site. Order their catalog. Its easier to read about the different tapes than online.

Cindy

I just bought the Leslie Sansone tapes at Sam's for $17.95. I started tape 1 this a.m. My question is: How do you get the water into the little tiny hole in the ball weights. Are they to weigh 2 pounds when full? I could fill mine to 1.5 but there wasn't enough water pressure to get to 2 pounds. I think that's what they are to weigh. My kit does not include good directions on filling the balls. Thanks for your answers.

Norma

-----

Hi Norma,
My weights are 2 pounds each and came filled with sand or something like sand. I did read that she had weights that were water filled, and I could be wrong but I thought it said they were 1 pound weights when filled.

Hopefully someone who has the water weights will come along with better info for ya!!

Good luck with the tapes. I really enjoy them and actually find doing them de-stressing at the end of the day!

Oh yeah the Sansone walking tapes are fabulous...I am a librarian and I heard one of our patrons raving about the tapes...checked one out a the library now I have purchased the set for home w/ weight balls included...seeing as i am overweight this is a great workout low impact on the knees and fun to do....i do it 5 times a week

robinette77

-----

I also plan on buying these tapes because I need to get regular exercise and lose weight. I lost 20 lbs. after surgery, but quickly put it back on once I got back to work (donuts, etc.).
Has anyone lost any significant weight yet from this program? I hope to start with the walking and also add water aerobics in the fall.

Linda

-----

i finally got mine filled properly i think they are supposed to be 2 lbs when filled..just hold then firmly to your faucet( I think an outdoor hose nozzle is probably more appropriate fro the small opening provided)...i was afarid my balls were gonna explode( there's a wicked picture)but i got it done. It's a bit messy getting that water in though..but they are easy to use and grip!

robinette77

-----

Linda, I was doing my tapes faithfully until the really hot weather came, and I have not been as faithful to them, but with using those as well as an eliptical machine, I lost about 8 pounds in 5 weeks. Not as much as I would have hoped for, based on doing both every night, but hey, 8 pounds is 8 pounds!! I hope this weather changes soon so I can get back into a routine again. I really am still enjoying them, and the elliptical I got is alot of fun as well. I am doing about a mile on the elliptical in 6 minutes, and I try to do 2 or 3 miles on that a day as well.

Continued good luck to everyone using the tapes!!

water bottles with sipper tops

I just read about how difficult it is to fill the balls with water and thought about the water bottles that we use that come with sipper tops. Maybe you could save one and fill the balls from the sipper top instead of the water faucet. Fill the sipper bottle and then squeeze the water into the ball. Would this work better? I don't have the tapes yet, but plan to get them.

Linda I am so excited to hear that you love the tapes. I just ordered the walking tapes for the abs! I let you know if I like them. Do any of you have those? I think the program is really neat.

Maria

-----

What is the name of the tape for the Abs? Where did you order it? I have the collage videos catalouge.

Cindy

-----

I just ordered the tapes off an infomercial last week. They haven't arrived yet I think that it can take 3 weeks. They were $60 for three tapes. I thought they looked so fun. So keep your eye on the informercial because I don't think that they are in a catalog yet. I think the informercial was new. Good luck.

30something

-----

Hi 30 something!!
Glad to hear you are getting the walking tapes. They are very good and easy to do. I haven't been doing them as regularly as I used to simply because the weather has been so hot, but I do love them and will get back to it this fall. I also just ordered the Winsor Pilates tapes for the Abs, butt and thighs. I have heard good things about these as well.

Ck1210, I got my walking tapes and Pilates tapes from the Home Shopping channel here in Canada. I am sure the US home shopping have them all as well though.

I've seen those pilates tapes. They look awesome, please let us know if you like them. I am just 4 weeks post op and am still limited on what exercises that I can do. Good luck to you and your exercise program.

30something

-----

I get my tapes from College Videos. They are great and the shipping time is about a week. You can also view the tapes before you buy them. the site is www.CollageVideo.Com.

I have the Leslie Sansone Walk away the Pounds plus set and Leslie Sansone's Walk Away Pounds-Abs set. I am 3 weeks post surgery and I am still leary of lifting my knees and the kicks and stretching over head.

Has anyone tried these moves without having pain!!!!

I have alot of at-home tapes that I am dying to get back to along with a weekly Jazzercise class.

I do not want to head backwards by being too hasty.

Thanks,
Pinky

-----

Hi Pinky,

Just my opinion here, but I really think 3 weeks is way too early to try and start exercising that involves kicks and alot of exertion. I know walking a bit is good, but as someone who has those tapes of Leslies, I think its probably a bit strenous to do these this early in your recovery. There are lots of stiches internally that are still healing and will be healing for some time. You may want to repost your question on a new thread by itself, as it may not get seen in here being its on the second page. Best of luck to you with your recovery!

Hi! I love the Leslie Sansone walking tapes too! They have really helped me to lose weight (almost 30 pounds in about 6 months!) and just generally get back in shape.

I live in Germany, ordered the videos from Amazon and had them sent over here, so didn't bother ordering the weights. I have a pair of small hand-held weights (about 2 pounds) that I use instead. I don't use the weights on consecutive days to give my muscles a rest between workouts. Just a suggestion.

Another way I've adapted the program...the music is a bit boring after awhile, so I have two CDs that I use: Praise Walk with Kim Alexis from Integrity Hosanna "Personal Trainer" series. I mute the VCR and put the uplifting music on and go! while Leslie and friends are on the tube. We aren't always in sync but the pace and the number of reps of each exercise are the same.

I'm also looking forward to comments on the ABs version.

Michelle
