Article: Vitamins and Ibuprofen Before Hysterectomy ?

I was reading some info I'd printed out awhile back. I came across something about stop taking vitamins, herbs and ibuprofen about 2 weeks before surgery. I'd been taking my One A Day vitamins and ibuprofen for my back pain. Am I not supposed to do this? I have my pre-surgery tests and bladder test tomorrow. Should I tell doctor about this? He's not going to change my surgery date is he? Am I in panic mode for no reason?

Don’t panic! Multivitamins, such as One-A-Day, taken a couple weeks before and after surgery may help with wound healing.

If you do not have a history of bleeding problems you should be ok. There are some doctors that let you stay on ibuprofen and vitamins up until surgery. Their thought is that it reduces the chance of possible blood clots in the extremities after surgery. While other doctors would rather you stop taking ibuprofen 2 weeks before. We would advise talking to your doctor regarding any medications and vitamins that you take on a regular basis. More than likely he/she will not cancel surgery, unless you have a history of bleeding problems.

Studies are reporting on the use of herbal medicine while undergoing surgery and warn that you should talk with your doctor and tell him exactly everything that you are taking. The herbs most studied were Echinacea, ephedra (also known as ma huang), garlic, ginkgo, ginseng, kava, St. John's wort, and valerian.

Don't fear the unknown; just ask your doctor soon. They can advise you quickly and calm your nerves.
