I recently had my hysterectomy and parts of my abdomen, and thigh, are still numb. When will it improve??

Many doctors explain numbness following surgery as stretched nerves (or cut if near the incision) or repositioned nerves during surgery. It can take up to a year for the nerves to repair themselves, if at all. Some ladies regain feeling quite quickly, but many find that some degree of numbness remains permanently.

Take things very slowly and do not do anything to strain or aggravate the surgical area. Remember not to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk and also allow for lack of feeling when, for example, leaning against anything hot.

If you have concerns about the numbness not improving, then please don't hesitate to discuss it with your doctor.
