Hi and Welcome to Hystersisters!

I'm Ann. I'm 47 years old, no kids. My husband is aquadriplegic, he uses a wheelchair, but it doesn't slow him down much.We are both very involved with the Paralyzed Veterans of America, inparticular with the bass fishing tournament trail. We started havingtournaments with the Paralyzed Veterans of America organization here inFlorida and it grew into the trail that exists today, includingtournaments in several states and a Grand Championship at the end of the trail year. We get to travel all over the country for these tournaments, he gets to fish, and I help keep it all organized (somebody's got to do the work!) I absolutely love it, I get to go fishing during practice days before tournaments and I love the sun and the water........and the fact that once in a while I catch more fish than the guys do and it drives them crazy.

We have a spoiled rotten beagle named Peaches. We used to have two ofthem, but Babe was 15 in June, and beagles don't live forever. Is itlove or is it hormones......will I ever stop crying over that dog?Anyway......now you know where the name Peachybabe came from!Other than beagles and fishing, I like to read, crosstitch, all kinds of crafts, go to the beach, bake, and am somewhat of an exercise fanatic. I go to a gym several mornings a week and lift weights and walk on the treadmill. I also spend a lot of time on my computer!

My journey to Hystersisters began when my doctor decided that maybe that pain that periodically showed up on my left side wasn't diverticulitus, and she sent me for a pelvic ultrasound. I knew I was in trouble when the tech said "has your doctor ever mentioned how large your uterus is?" No she hadn't but I knew that probably meant something was wrong. It turned out they couldn't see the walls of my uterus for all the fibroids. A CT scan showed a cyst on my left ovary. My internist sent me to a GYN who said "hysterectomy!" I said "Do it soon!" I didn't want to have time to worry about it and we were supposed to go to a fishing tournament in Texas in two months' time! The date was December 26th, 2000 (Merry Xmas, have a hysterectomy!) Surgery was scheduled for January 5, 2001.

Our wedding anniversary was New Year's Eve......I was such a scared,nervous wreck, it was a little hard to celebrate. I went to my computer and did a search on hysterectomies and the Hystersister site came up............I started reading and I've been coming back every since.

I felt a whole lot better about everything by the time I went to have my surgery (TAH/BSO). It turned out I had massive fibroids, endo everywhere, adeno, adhesions. I was lucky, I had no complications, an easy recovery (God bless my neighbors) and best of all.......got the doctor's ok to go to the fishing tournament!

I've made a few trips thru the Hormone Jungle but I think I've got myself pretty well balanced these days.

And a few days ago, just after my 47th birthday, Kathy was nice enough to ask me if I wanted to be a hostess for the post-op board. I recommend Hystersisters to every woman I meet who is facing a possible hysterectomy or going thru menopause and having problems. I am glad to have the opportunity to be able to give back some of the good things that Hystersisters means to me........all the support and the caring and the knowing that "hey I'm not alone in this". When I needed someone who felt like I did before my hyst (scared!), someone who had "been there & done that", I found several women fitting those descriptions at Hystersisters.

And now.......I'm one who has "been there & done that" and it makes mefeel great to be able to help other women who are facing some of theproblems and pitfalls that I faced during my recovery.
