DES Daughters

Anyone else here DES daughters? I found out from my mother when I had my abnormal pap in January that she had taken it when she carried me and that the doc had "kept her on it longer than he was supposed to". I was looking forward to the idea of no more pelvics or pap smears after my TAH but my whom I love and trust has told me that is not true and knowing I am a DES daughter am going to have to be watched closer than ever. Does anyone else have any knowledge of this?

DES Daughters

Hi,

My Mom took it when she was carrying my brother who is 6 yrs. younger than myself. I am aware of daughters needing to be watched .

Here is some info for daughters:

DES Daughters

Hello,

My mother took DES while pregnant with me.

I often wonder how may of my health issues are a result of that exposure? I worry about how it may effect my own daughters who are now in their 20's.

My doctor still has me come in for annual exams - and they do watch more closely if you are a "DES child".

DES Daughters

Lynn,

Another excellent site is DESaction.org. Has some great info including lists of docs specially trained in the care and evaluation of DES daughters. I contacted them by e-mail (there is also a 1 (800) number on the web site. They were able to tell me which of my conditions were related to the DES that studies have proved thus far and which were not related. From what I can tell, they don't yet know the health problems we are going to face at this point in our life as that is what they are studying now. Look at it this way we are pioneers.

Thanks for your post and for all of the good info received on this site.

Double Sister

Hi! I am a DES daughter, and an old one at that!! My mom took it when carrying me way back in 1957. Luckily her doctor was still practicing when I was a teenager and contacted her to bring me in for check-up. I have since learned quite a bit about DES, both from my various dysplasia episodes and from seeing a specialist at Johns Hopkins. I am scheduled for a TAH/BSO this coming Monday the 16th of May, but have done well over the years with constant monitoring, which is key to your health and happiness. I would be glad to share my knowledge with you, and hopefully learn what you know in return!!

Take the best care!!
