Progesterone Cream

I was wondering if those of us who cannot take estrogen, can benefit from using OTC progesterone cream alone. Does the prog cream help with hot flashes, insomnia and night sweats?

Progesterone Cream

I use OTC progesterone and I am not sure if it or other supplements are helping what?? I did stop for a while and noticed I felt more bloated and got acne. I haven't had insomnia but have heard that it helps. Hope someone can give you better info.

Sherik

Sherik,

Thank you for your reply.

Do you take estrogen also? What other supplements are you taking? I am still trying to find the right combination of supplements to take.

I take vitamin e, primrose oil, magnesium, b complex, vitamin c and calcium. I get very nauseus after taking them, so I am going to stop everything and start them one at a time.

Hi

No HRT but I take everything you take plus, black cohosh, essential fatty acids (flaxseed good to take with EPO), zinc, ginko biloba, anitoxidents and I am adding CoQ10 and L cartinine for heart health. I guess I am just use to it or ignore it. Have you tried taking your supplements with food? If I do have trouble sleeping (very rare) I take valerian. OH and my calicum has vit D.

Progesterone Cream

I took otc progesterone cream for about a year prior to my hyst and then for the first six months after. I DID feel a LOT better on it. The only reason that I stopped was that I read that too much progesterone can cause some insulin problems. Having said that...I just read today the exact opposite! ARGH! While I was on it I didn't have hardly any hotflashes or night sweats. It also helped with my witchiness and insomnia. I'm planning on starting it again the end of next week (I'm having my hormone levels tested and want a true test of what I'm producing). Right now I'm not on any estrogen. I do have one ovary but it's not working very well. My gyn gave me some Estrace vaginal cream to try since I have some itching/discharge/tenderness. The progesterone didn't help very much with that. I also take a LOT of supplements. For me the otc progesterone worked best if I took it at night. I hope this helps! Good luck.

Progesterone Cream

Christinarose, check with your doctor before you use progesterone. I have a blood clotting disorder and my doctor said i can't take progesterone.

I suppose it depends on why you can't take hormones, but progesterone is a hormone and shouldn't be used without your doctor's knowledge. Best wishes,

Thank you ladies

Thank all of you for your replies. I will check with my doctor about using progesterone. I have an appointment next week with a new doctor. I hope she can shed some light on the right supplements to take, as well as advice on whether I can begin HRT.

My other doc did not want me to take HRT because of multiple breast cysts and calcifications. I had some cysts aspirated 3 weeks ago and I have another appointment with my surgeon this week also. I am at my wits end. I just want to feel better. I thank all of you for your support these past months.
