Question about LSH (cervical cancer patient)

My doctor is taking everything...uterus, cervix, ovaries. He mentioned LSH. I haven't met with him yet, but is it possible to take everything with LSH?

Really need more info.

Thanks.

Technically, your doctor can't take everything with an LSH. The 'S' stands for supracervical or subtotal, which means that the cervix is not taken.

What your doctor may have meant is that he could take everything laparoscopically. It is possible to have a total laparoscopic hysterectomy, which includes the uterus and cervix, and can include the ovaries.

Take care,
Anita

By definition, the "S" in LSH is for 'supracervical' meaning the cervix is left in. If the ovaries are removed it's called BSO which is for 'bilateral salpinsomethingIcan'tspell oophorsomethingelseIcan'tspell"

If you don't mind my asking, why is your Doctor taking everything? If he's talking about LSH, might he be suggesting that your cervix and ovaries are healthy and could stay?

I'm glad you're here... this is a great place to get information!

Be blessed,
Beseda

Question about LSH (cervical cancer patient)

I have cervical cancer...so it must go. Guess the only thing he really could leave would be the ovaries, but I said get those too for fear of ovarian cancer.

Question about LSH (cervical cancer patient)

Hi Tatee!

There is a list of hysterectomy types, and their abbreviations, here:

Abbreviations

Since you have cancer, it is likely your physician will want to remove your complete uterus, including the cervix (which is part of the uterus).

Whatever type of hysterectomy you end up having, I hope that you have a successful surgery and an uneventful recovery.
