A&P repair ~ what is it?

Every time I'm at the dr's the nurse says "oh your the one that had the A&P repairs and repeat surgery." I always remind her that yes, I had the repeat surgery, but, don't think I had A&P repairs.

What is it? Ok, I've always felt like my bottom was falling out of me. I know that I had a LOT of work done during my surgeries. But, don't know if I had A&P repair done. My dr never discussed this with me.

I don't feel like everything is falling out anymore, but, my recovery has been anything but normal!

Re: Hyst with posterior and anterior repair

Amy, what "repeat" surgery did you have done? Was it for the bladder and if so, did you use mesh the first time? My neighbor had a bladder lift several years back but her Surgeon did not use mesh as a secondary support. My surgeon told me that my lift would 100% fail if I did not use mesh so I agreed to the mesh. I'm still fearful of having to do this all over again years down the road. I'm mainly fearful because I don't want the vaginal cuff reopened. :0(
I'm only 2 wks and two days post op but I still think about things like that.

As for anterior repairs, were you checked for a rectocele? The Surgeon would have inserted a finger into your rectum and had you push.

If this wasn't done, the Surgeon may have noticed the rectocele once the surgery began and just fixed it. Mine wasn't bad so I didn't need episiotomy type cutting. All of my work with the exception of two sutures on my pubic area was done on the inside.

I would ask your surgeon. You need to know exactly what was done to you.

They had to re-open my TAH incision. I had to have surgery to repair the 1" hole they put in my bladder and remove the hematoma from internal bleeding they caused when they dissected my bladder from my uterus during my TAH.

They didn't know they did it, even though I had excruciating pain and a lot of symptoms. They sent me home 5 days after the TAH and I went back 18 hours later, they finally did testing to show the hole and had to take me back for surgery at 8:00 to fix it. I ended up spending 11 days total in the hospital between the TAH and the bladder repair. I was only suppose to be there 3 days!!!!!!!!

I had a catheter for 4 weeks. I'm still healing from all that work.

The urologist told me he did a cystocele (sp?) repair. The ob/gyn's nurse said I had A&P repair. I guess I'll have to ask in 2 weeks when I go back in for another round of silver nitrate.

Re: A&P repair ~ what is it?

If they are telling you an A&P repair, I would assume they mean anterior and posterior. That it was I had and it was to correct bladder and rectal prolapse. I had the mesh for the bladder and cow or cadaver fascia for the rectal. I am so sorry that you had to go through all of that. Once everything heals though you should feel wonderful. I know that I am so glad to have had it done.
