Lupron Shots

I will be having a total hysterectomy soon for endometrial cancer that was only discovered after I had han ablation procedure performed last Friday for my excessive bleeding problems. I am 51 years old and to prep for the ablation I was given Lupron shots over the period of a month and half. It stopped by bleeding within a week, but other than that, I have had no other side effects. The shots are supposed to send you into a "fake/temporary" menopause state. I am going to have my ovaries removed during the hysterectomy and I am afraid of the surgical menopause that I've heard can be sudden and severe. Does anyone out there think that if I didn't have any problems with the menopause symptoms from Lupron, then perhaps I won't have it so rough with the real menopause that I'm going to experience? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: Lupron Shots

Saridah3,

I think everyone is a little different. But, what I can tell you from my own experience is that chemical menopause (lupron) was 1000x worse for me that surgical menopause (bso).

I was not on any HRT for the first few months following my lavh/bso. Even that was more manageable than chemical menopause.

Granted I am a little less than a year post op. Hopefully someone else that's further post op can give you some long term out look.

Also, there are quite a few posts on the endometriosis support forum in regards to lupron. Be sure to read up on vitamins and supplements to take, I think those are very important as well post bso.
