Why is it like this???

Why is it like this?? Your kids seem like they are extremely sick and when you decide to take them to dr. & you get there, they act as if nothing is wrong!!! Well, my uterus is being a child. I had come to terms with my decision to have hysterectomy ( scheduled for 12/16 LAVH) and felt good about it. This month, my period was not so bad. I had 2 bad heavy days but now I am doing ok. No big clots, etc. I am second guessing myself. Reason for hysterectomy-fibroids, polyps. Have been on BC and had procedures done before. Why is it like this???? Laura

Re: Why is it like this???

I know what you mean. I don't really understand much about the mind/body connection, but here's my two cents. As you have become more comfortable with your decision and anticipated better days ahead, your body has relaxed this month as well. It sure does make it difficult, though, as I know many of us question whether we are doing the right thing.

Re: Why is it like this???

I have been struggling with that kind of thinking too. I am on Depo Provera so I don't cycle at all. My doc said cycling was doing too much damage... my pain is about 60% less for now, so I keep thinking "I've muddled along with this for the past 19 years... I can keep it up until menopause!"

I almost feel like I would benefit from a window in my pelvis, so I could have a daily visual reminder why this needs to happen!

You have to be careful with staying on Depo for too long though too! Have you had a bone scan? I was on it for 9 years and didn't think I would ever go off it because it was the only relief I found, but they ran a bone scan and my spine was deteriorating and I was starting to get osteoporosis (spelled that wrong).

Re: Why is it like this???

I hear ya, this seemed to have happened to me as well. I was supposed to have had my hysterectomy last Nov.'08, and I cancelled, then things started to get bad again, so I decided to get a second opinion. I saw my new gyn in Aug. I got the same opinion, that hysterectomy is what needed to happen. I am scheduled for Mon. Nov 9, and this last visit from Aunt Flo, wasn't that bad. I saw my gyn this past Thursday to see I was really doing the right thing, she reassured me that I really needed to get this fibroid ridden uterus out. My doctor answered all of my questions very throughly, explained that my largest fibroid grew quite a bit from June to Aug, and that while this isn't an emergency right now, it could become that way in the future.
So with that being said, I am headed to the castle Monday morning.

Re: Why is it like this???

Hi. The same kind of thing happened to me. My last period lasted 7 months and then I went several months without one. During that "quiet time" I kept saying I probably didn't need the hyst after all since I was doing "fine."

However, since my doctor had already told me that my hyst was practically life-or-death, I had to fight those second-guessing thoughts. I had pre-cancerous cells and he wasn't sure if he would get in there and find cancer or not.

If you feel certain that you have made the right decision, then you have. You can always take this time to get a second opinion just to be sure, of course.

I think what Tadakarusty said makes sense. "As you have become more comfortable with your decision and anticipated better days ahead, your body has relaxed this month as well. " Our bodies react to our stress levels, good and bad.

Best wishes to you!

Re: Why is it like this???

I too can relate - Even with having another heavy period in October (soaking thru an overnight Always pad in about 90 mins sometimes) and then bleeding again two weeks after the Oct one stopped I'm thinking "Hmm - I don't feel that bad in between periods, why am I doing this?" I think I am more not looking forward to the down time of the recovery - Do I want to go thru that period of being in pain, and slowly recovering or continue to put up with the other symptoms until I go into real menopause (which could be anytime since I'm 51) I do however, really want to have the bladder sling surgery done - I was going to ask my Dr to do that anyway, even before the test results of the fibroids and polyps...I meet with my Dr on Tues 11/17 for my pre op and I know she will take the time with me to answer all my questions (again) and who knows, I may change my mind and only have the bladder sling part done on 11/19...but I don't think I will - I'm ready to be done with periods, and painful sex (DH has been very patient, but I can see him getting frustrated too) and feeling run down probably from the constant bleeding...Whew - sorry for the long post, but sometimes I think we need to write down our thoughts and suddenly it becomes clear again why we made our decision - kwim?

Re: Why is it like this???

LAPage~I know how you feel but you have to remember what the bad ones are like and know that they will be back. It is ok to get a second opinion and a good idea if you arent comfortable with your decision. I had a total of 4 opinions before surgery but I also knew that it was the right thing to do. I used to have periods that lasted a minimum of 11 days a month and a few as long as 27-28 days non stop where I lost so much blood I would become anemic and life was misserable. I had fibroids removed a D&C then endometrial ablation and thought that would be the answer. That was in 2004 and within a year everything was back again and I put off having surgery again and by the time they went in to do what should have been a 2 hour surgery it ended up 6 hours because of all the repairs they had to make. I am not trying to scare you but wanted to let you know that even when the 4th doctor told me to do hysterectomy I still didnt want it and had second thoughts but I have only one regret and that is not having done it is 2004 and saving myself the last 5 1/2 years of pain. Try to remember that even though today is a good one their was a reason you went in for help and you do have a problem that isnt likly to go away on its own. Good luck in your decision.

~Sleonard~as you know I posted something very similar on your topic about this and I am so happy you have come to a decision about it. Monday is my oldest daughters 13th birthday but I will make sure to take time out to keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a quick and healthy recovery and for you to have total peace that you have made the right decision. Good luck to you!

Re: Why is it like this???

Hannie,

I L-O-V-E getting your replys. Thank you so much for keeping me in your prayers.
I feel so much better now that I saw my doctor again. I have my bag packed, and trying to keep myself busy.
I hope your daughter has a wonderful birthday on Mon.
We are having unseasonably warm weather here in Missouri, it is supposed to be 78 degrees today and again tomorrow, so being able to get outside and enjoy the weather is nice.
I hope you are doing good now that you are back at work. Don't over do it.

Re: Why is it like this???

lol -- the last 2 periods before my surgery were pretty mild compared to the several years previous. Whatever it is, it appears to be normal!
