no time to prepare

Hi! I went to see the surgeon yesterday and get all the info on the surgery. They are going to "try" (that doesn't sound too convincing) a TVH. I was expecting to have time to get ready, but they want to do it MONDAY!!!!! Has anyone else had this happen so fast? Also, has anyone had it at a military facility?
Thanks.

I requested a hyst on a Monday and had it on Wednesday! I BEGGED them to do it right away. I think not having time to think about it is the best way!!!

I hope they can do your TVH. But, if they can't, I assume they'll do a TAH. I had a TAH/BSO andl it really wasn't that bad. If you're asleep or numb (I had a spinal), it won't make much difference to you at the time! Recovery is a little tougher, so I'm sure he'll do it vaginally if he can.

Hope all goes well!

Blessings,

Laura

If you've been reading on here long, I'm sure you've heard over & over that waiting is the worst part. I had about a month between being told and having it done and am so glad I didn't have to wait any longer.

Usually when a vag hyst is done, they have to tell you there's a chance they may have to do it abdominally. That way there's no surprises if they find during surgery they can't do it vaginally & you won't be shocked when you wake up with a different route taken. Also, for legal purposes, you sign a release for it in case it's needed.

Good luck & hope all goes well. Let us know how you're doing as soon as you feel up to it!

Aside from the obvious panic of getting everything in your house in order and things packed for the hospital, I think I would definitely prefer a short waiting time before surgery. It will be a month wait for me too by the time I have my surgery (2/18) and I wish it would hurry up and get here!

Good luck. Don't worry too much if everything you think should get done before surgery doesn't get done. In the big picture, it won't matter.

Well I've got you all beat! I found out in OCTOBER that I needed this. Now that's a long time to think about it. I'm planning a TVH keeping ovaries. Comming up soon, Feb.11. Not freaking yet, but I'm sure I will as it gets closer. Reading everyone's stories has really helped me stay calm. I know what to expect. Thanks to all you wonderful ladies who keep this site going.

AAACK! That *is* fast. Less time to fret.

Get yourself some baggy undies, baggy PJs, something loose to wear out when you feel good enough to walk outdoors or go out. Stock up on juices, tea, etc.. Get some cash to have on-hand. Then go out and enjoy yourself a little (walking, museum, shopping...) so you don't feel so housebound afterward. By Monday you'll be all ready to go.

There's not alot to be said for the "torture" of waiting, so maybe this is the way to do it!

Just do what you can, and dang the rest...someone else will have to do it! Just get the stuff you'll need for you, and be happy that it will be over before you get to be a basketcase like the rest of us! You're gonna be great, so don't worry!!!
