Re: Did you get a second opinion?

Nope, like a lot of you, just wanted the pain gone. I am 11 days post op and really glad I did it, only kept my cervix. I had advanced adenomysis and cysts all over, so since I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in June, I knew this was what I wanted.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

My hysterectomy was the second opinion. I was treated for UTI for months with no relief, I was refered to a urologist who walked into the consultation room and announced to a GP he was teaching that I had interstitial cyctitis because I fit the profile and no other tests would be useful. I wrote my GP a letter and demanded a referal to a urologist who would actually work with me and not just pontificate at me. The second guy did a dye assisted x-ray the first guy didn't want to do and noted that my utereus way way too large and putting pressure on other organs. It was too large for laperoscopic and my bladder needed to be stabilized, then my pap came back suspicious. So we did complete. It turns out I have very widespead endometriosis, along with adenoma, cysts and a bladder that had adhered to the utereus. It took a while but after about a year my bladder felt much better, ie I'm not feeling pain any more. I have had trouble in the aftermath of the hysterectomy.. my harmones are off, I am consious of taking care of my bladder, but I can't imagine what a hell it would have been to live with a misdiagnosis and to have been denied the procedures that helped me.

No, I did not. I've used the same Doc forever and I trust his opinion.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

NO, not from another Doctor.

Saw my MSN WHCNP for the severe bleeding and clots and we tried hormones at my request....I felt I wanted to try everything non invasive first. It just was not getting easier. Several more tests revealed fibroids.

Researched online, talked with the surgeon, and as many people as I could find who had been through what I was experiencing. With the possibility of my husband being let go from his job in a few months...the loss of insurance also prompted me to not wait any longer.

I felt confident in the Doctor...I had been going there for annual exams for several years. I felt my NP would point me in the right direction and I think she has. I like the surgeon and she has had a hysterectomy herself.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I voted "no" but I "sorta" got a second opinion.

As my diagnosis was Invasive Cervical Cancer, my regular GYN said I would need a hysterectomy and set up an appt. with the same gyn. onc. I went to seven years ago for my cone biopsy when I had cancer in situ. Seven years ago he suggested a hysterectomy and I declined, opting for the cone instead.

But I chose to see a different gyn onc than him this time (mainly because it would have taken so long to get in to see him), and she immediately said "hysterectomy." She performed another cone biopsy to determine what type I would need; thus, I had a TLH and a lymphectomy.

Since I had three doctors essentially recommending hysterectomy, I felt that it I was making the right decision based on my diagnosis.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

Yes. Today was my second opinion appointment and I am so glad I did.

I have Endometrial cancer and I have a Rectocele. The first GYN Oncologist I saw was not interested in coordinating the Rectocele repair and said I would have to have a second surgery in 3-6 months to take care of it. I really want to take care of both at the same time so I called a GYN Oncologist practice that is associated with a University near here and ask if they coordinate both surgeries. I was told they do it all the time, so I called my GYN's office and told them I wanted a referral to this practice. Today was my appointment and I am really happy I did. My surgery isn't scheduled yet, but they will be taking care of both the hyserectomy and the rectocele repair. I am about as happy as I can be considering everything going on.
