my catheter tube comes out my vagina

I am absolutely 100% positive as I have felt and looked. I am a bit confused as to how and why this works. Do I have a hole in my bladder? Is that why he told me a fistula is a possible outcome from this surgery? Does the hole close up? I need answers about this. I need to talk to others who have had this type of cath. I am 11 days post op and will wear it until the 20th.

Re: my catheter tube comes out my vagina

Are you sure it's not from your urethra which is just above your vaginal opening? It's the direct drain from your bladder. I had my catheter with a bag attached for 4 days in hospital and 8 days at home after my surgery attached this way. It gave my insides extra time to reduce swelling so there was less pressure on my bladder.

It may look and feel like it is coming from inside your vagina because of swelling. Hope this helps.

Re: my catheter tube comes out my vagina

When I said 100%positive I mean it. I have looked and felt down there and the tube is coming out of my vagina. I am having to use 2 vaginal meds and my applicator bumped it tonight. I bled from it. I was worried. So far it quit and I hope it was nothing serious. I go to the doctor Tuesday to get the cath out. I will have had it 16 days by then. I am confused and ready to be done with it. Thanks for your response.

Re: my catheter tube comes out my vagina

It's not uncommon to find the urethral opening sort of tucked just inside the top entrance of the vaginal opening. It can appear even more so with swelling and positioning. Hopefully your doctor will be able to reassure you at your next visit that this is normal anatomy.

Re: my catheter tube comes out my vagina

Well I have to come back and say I was wrong. My urethral opening is up inside the top of my vagina. The nurse explained that the opening was in a different place from being lifted. I must apologize for not knowing.

Re: my catheter tube comes out my vagina

Its pretty easy to make the mistake because it can all be so close together, esp with swelling. Don't feel bad! Even nurses putting in catheters sometimes have trouble seeing where the urethra actually is. Glad they could reassure you.
