davinici hysterectmy scheduled-hopeful

this is the weird irony of my life. After 2 months of pap smears, a failed biopsy attempt, sonograms, and d & c and hysteroscopy, it has been about 2 weeks now that i found out my dx of complex displasia with atypia bordering on well-differentiated adenocarcinoma. funny thing happened- i had to share-. had an appt with the gyn oncologist chief division, professor, trainer of hysterectmies dr. 2 days before the appt, answering machine message says sorry- he has 2 emergency surgeries- cant see you that day, how about another 2 week wait? OR you can see this other dr. Now, i was too afraid/annoyed to wait 2 more weeks just to see the dr. So i went with dr Z who could still see me yesterday. Turns out she can do the davinci and he cant, so the point of my story is- sometimes good things happen for reasons we dont understand. I am a planner and had my appt all planned out, was NOT HAPPY to change those plans 2 days before the appt. but it worked out better, really. Not sure what all the initials on here mean - i am having everything out- cervix, ovaries, tubes, uterus, with lymph node dissection on July 29 using the davinci machine. that could be LAH? or DAH? but not sure what BSO means? help?
great site, love the people on here - it is more helpful than i ever imagined

Re: davinici hysterectmy scheduled-hopeful

DVh/BSO. Is one way. BSO means both ovaries removed. (Bilateral salpingo oopherectomy). There is a list of abbreviations somewhere here. But I'm sorry you got a cancer diagnosis. I had the same cancer, and it sounds like they are finding yours early. Often the surgery is the only treatment required. You're wise to have a GYN onc do your surgery, you can prevent having additional surgeries for staging that way. I hope you are doing OK at staying calm, that's not always easy when you hear cancer. Best wishes for your surgery and recovery.

Yes, sometimes Fate does step in on our behalf.

Hang in there as you wait for your surgery date. Don't forget to check over on the surgery boards for tips relative to the procedure itself, the hospital and returning home. We'll all be here to help however we can!

Casey -

As mentioned you can see a DVH or RALH (robotic assisted laproscopic hysterectomy) as abbreviations.

I am glad you had the 2nd opinion, my experience was something similar.

and we're here for you.

Re: davinici hysterectmy scheduled-hopeful

Hey Caseydog...I had my davinci radical hysterectomy on June 30, 2010Was in hospital 2 nites, the second was because of bad headache probly from the trendelenberg position my surgeon used. I am a 56 year old 275 lb f]lady with the best surgeon in Michigan. Even tho my surgery took 5 hours due to bad adhesions from previous work, he never gave up and did the davinci. Absolutely NO pain meds other than 4 tylenol. Davinci is wonderful and so is my doc.!!!!!!.

I agree with Fniz, if you have to have a hysterectomy Da Vinci is the way to go.

Re: davinici hysterectmy scheduled-hopeful

While I, too, sing the praises of my DaVinci hysterectomy, my gyn oncologist said it isn't always this good for everyone. He said he's done enough of them now (400+) to know that not everyone has the same positive results.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't be hopeful that it will go well. I was, too. And for me, it went better than I anticipated.
