6 days away from going to the castle and can't sleep

I have my surgery on 8/27 and am having a really hard time sleeping. Is anyone else having this problem and if you are what are you doing to help it?

Re: 6 days away from going to the castle and can't sleep

Hi purplelvr74 I can totally relate - I couldn't sleep very well at all for the whole week (restless sleep the whole month) before my surgery . I don't like to take sleeping pills so I just tried to take it easy and tried to catch as must couch time as I could. That was difficult though because I was getting ready to be laid up for 6 weeks after surgery and I wanted to get Everything done before surgery - so I really didn't get much rest. I tried to live and eat healthy. I figured if I couldn't sleep at least my body was getting health benefits from my lifestyle. If you decide to take anything to help you sleep be sure to check with your Dr. because so many things are bad to take before surgery - including many herbs (like valerian - an herb sleep aid). I guess I didn't really give you any solid tips but maybe knowing that missing some sleep before surgery didn't cause me any problems during surgery will give you some comfort. All went great with my surgery even though I was a nervous wreak ! I did great with the anesthesia (just a little double vision afterwards - not that uncommon. It went away soon). Don't worry, you'll catch up on sleep after your surgery - that's when you're body really needs it .

Great success with your surgery !

Re: 6 days away from going to the castle and can't sleep

I talked to my dr about my anxiety and he prescribed Xanax- I was a mess. But, I also started listening to some cds at night that relaxed me and really helped me a lot. I started sleeping better and was not using the Xanax. here is what I used--- Successful Surgery - Health Journeys

Re: 6 days away from going to the castle and can't sleep

I had my TAH 11 weeks ago and can tell you I had all the same feelings as you are now going through and no sleep! I know you will find it hard to believe cause I did also , but you will find time flys by through recovery, by 6 weeks I was almost just about back to normal and now 11 weeks on feel wonderful.
You will be fine, I really do think the worst thing is the waiting, after that just look forward to a new lease of life. xx

Re: 6 days away from going to the castle and can't sleep

I started taking Trazodone (sleeping pill) to help me sleep the week before my surgery. If you don't want to take a sleeping pill, Tylenol PM or Benadryl will help or you can buy a homeopathic supplement. I recommend Melatonin or Hyland's Calms Forte, they both work really well.
