Swelly Belly Question

I am having a Vaginal Hysterectomy, just the removal of a prolapsed uterus. Supposedly everything else is fine and will be left intact. WILL I have a swelly belly also? I expect some swelling with what they will be doing in there, but I hear of people having what sounds like excessive swelly bellies lasting for a long time. What is norm for swelly belly?
I am 3 weeks out for my visit to the castle, and my questions are coming fast and furious. I have my Surgeon visit Nov 1, and want to be armed with all my ?? for him. THANKS.

Re: Swelly Belly Question

I don't think there are any hard and fast answers to your question.

I expect that any hysterectomy is going to cause some swelling afterward due to the fact that a major organ was removed and a lot of tissue will be affected by this removal.

BUT - everyone is different and their bodies have different reactions to surgery. I would say expect it, and if it doesn't happen, be relieved.

Re: Swelly Belly Question

I would agree with McLila. Some women have more swelling and sometimes it does last a long time. I have not seen any posts here that correlate swelling with surgery type. I would agree to expect it and be very happy if it doesn't materialize or only lasts a short time. I got myself in the best shape possible pre-op, but have discovered that the post-op healing patterns are very unpredictable.

Re: Swelly Belly Question

Thanks Ladies. I will prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. I, too, have been exercising like crazy for the past three months, working to get in shape. I do three hours of swim class a day. I have toned up, so hopefully this will help with a lot of things....
