Re: Am i the only Mainer having a hysterectomy this year???

What kind did you have?? Did u keep your cervix/ovaries?? Did they properly manage your pain? That is what I am most scared of, I don't know if it is just this area or all of maine, but even after my c section last july it was hard to get good pain management, cause as far as the doctors around here are go, they treat everyone like they are drug addicts.

Re: Am i the only Mainer having a hysterectomy this year???

Hi,
you can see at the top of most peoples post what type they had. I had a Laproscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy,(a LAVH) which means I got my utereus and cervix removed, and I also had both ovaries removed-which is abreviated BSO. You can tell people that info about you too if you do the member survey. I was treated well as far as pain management at mercy. A hysterectomy is major surgery (not that a c-section isnt major, but it is a little different than this). Some women have major pain-I did-and some dont. If you are concerned about pain managemnet, I would talk to your surgeon ahead of time and make sure s/he is aware of your concern and orders up meds you are comfortable with ahead of time, and even writed you a script for pain meds for when you are discharged before you go into hospital. Also if you have any concerns about nausa or anything else let them know now so the can order anti-nausa meds etc. Personally, I have had endo for years and have been on some pretty stong meds , so they had me on ketamine and morphine after surgery plus anti-nausa meds and something else too- I forget what. They slowly weened mee off the morphine the night of surgery and switched to IV torodal and oxyxodone. I was able to tell them- I am in pain and they took care or me with something. I do know what you mean about the drug addict thing- I have experienced that at the ER before sespite having a documented medical condition. And I think it is nationwide bc I have heard the same from fellow Hystersisters. I hope I helped a little.

ps- If you have questions you should post on the bigger pre-op forum, all of us that have already had surgery are on there regularly answering questions.

Re: Am i the only Mainer having a hysterectomy this year???

((Ladies))

It’s wonderful to see new friendships forming here in the Maine Neighborhood forum!

Just a friendly reminder for those already familiar with the forums, and to explain for the benefit of any new members, all our forums have a unique purpose with "Neighborhoods" intended for topics unrelated to surgery. (Please check out the forum descriptor). We ask that hysterectomy discussions be conducted in the appropriate areas to avoid missing out on the awesome support available elsewhere on the site in, for example, the <links> Pre-Op and Post-Op forums ~ as ((Merr)) has already kindly mentioned.

So as not to duplicate the intended purpose of our forums, we’ll look forward to seeing you over on the hysterectomy boards for your support needs and questions, but hope you'll still continue to enjoy local interests and friendships here!

With best wishes and many thanks!

Re: Am i the only Mainer having a hysterectomy this year???

I am in Blue Hill Maine and had a TAH-BSO on November 1 at the Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. I think my recovery has been fairly "normal" but slower than I expected before - I couldn't imagine before hand what this would be like. I admit to being very naive about what to expect.

P.S. Just a plug for a small hospital, I felt very well taken care, felt the surgery went very well, my pain (at the hospital) was well-managed. My surgery was fairly straight forward compared to others on the site but I was comfortable with care.
