Kept Ovaries but they never regained function

I had a DVH on Dec 13, 2010. It was the best thing I ever did. I did ok hormonally for a while after surgery but within about 2-3 months I started having hotflashes and night sweats. I have been on a low dose estrogen ever since. They said my ovaries had gone into shock from surgery but might come back. I tried going off of the estrogen recently but after a couple of weeks it was obvious my ovaries had not come back. I am back on the hormones but I am still having alot of hot and cold flashes. The cold flashes are worse than the hot ones right now. I am wondering, if I was to go off of the hormones completely how long would I have the hot flashes and such? Wondering if I should do that or stay on them since I am only 38. Any ideas?

Re: Kept Ovaries but they never regained function

I would talk to your Dt about it. I'm 45 and kept both my ovaries, I'm on Evamist, because I was having severe hot flashes after my surgery, worse than before surgery. My Dr told me to stay on it til Fall then try one spray or skip a few days to see how I do, she suggested Fall because it's too hot down here in the Summer to deal with the hot flashes. She also said that the average woman goes through menopause around 51, so if my ovaries don't recover from the shock of surgery, I still have a ways to go. Maybe you need to increase your dose a little? I'd definitely give my Dr a call and see what they advise, especially with your age. Good luck to you!
