Re: How long for surgery date in UK

Hello,
Can anyone fill me in on what the procedure is between going to talk to your doctor and arriving at hospital for the op? Do I need to go and talk to the gynaecological specialist / surgeon or argue my case after that, or is it just agreed between me and the doctor and then I get a letter with a date on?

Thanks!
Bethany.

Re: How long for surgery date in UK

Hi
I was referred to a gynae by my gp in October it wasn't thought urgent at the time. My appt with gynae came thru in January. I was given an internal scan where they found cysts on ovaries, also did a smear even tho I wasn't due. I was referred for MRI as they thought it could be ovarian cancer. Turned out not to be cancer just cysts but smear showed high grade abnormal cells and I was referred to a gynae oncologist. The gynae oncologist thought best option was hysterectomy taking everything due to me also having breast cancer two years ago.
If there is a good reason for doing so I think the gynae doctors are happy to agree hysterectomy. I had my op on 25th may.

Re: How long for surgery date in UK

Um on arriving at the hospital for your op you go to your designated ward the day is surgery unless you have other complex medical issues relating to cardiology or nurologic conditions in which case your normaly admited the day before like I am as far as getting the operation your normally referred to a Gyne surgon from your gp

Surgery date in UK

I was told in March that I needed TAH (and ovaries) i was told op would be in June. Then got called in again in June to be told I was eligible for TLH. Had op on 31st July so 4 months wait really. The stress of waiting caused me to lose a stone in weight. ( I'm a worrier) but now 3 days post op. joined this site pre op and was kind of resigned to a bit of discomfort however was discharged with only paracetamol so it hasn't been fun. But getting better daily I guess. Good luck with yours. It's got to be better than it was before. That's what makes it all bearable x
