Hello Sisters,

Just got home from the hospital 5/10...Well, all went well. Had a LSH Uterus and tubes removed only. I had never been put under so I was really nervous. I should of never worried....it was great to go in and go to sleep and wake up and it's done (seemed like a great nap).. After surgery they took me to recovery (everyone so nice) for about an hour...they then took me to my room, single bed room with a wonderful view of the hills and city. Couldn't of asked for a better room. The nurses were really nice and helped me so much. I had broth for dinner and tons of water. Today when I got up I noticed a ton of gas in my stomach and under my ribs (very uncomfortable). One problem I had was with my right eye..I don't know what happened but when I came out of recovery I guess I rubbed my eye and it felt like there was a small piece of plastic or sand in it. It hurt worse than my surgery. I had to have my eye washed out with saline most of the night. It actually hurt until about an hour before I left the hospital. Still have no idea what it was, just glad it does not hurt anymore.
So, now I am home resting. Still VERY bloated and full feeling. I have been trying to eat, but I feel really full. I am hoping that goes away. I have been taking gas X and stool softner in hopes that I do not get blockage. My pain is mostly from the bloating. I have no bleeding at all. The doctor said my fibroids were small and there were no problems with the surgery. She thought there might be some issues due to me having 2 c-sections.
Just wanted to give everyone a big "HUG" and "Thank You" for all the warm wishes.
I hope everyone else has a great experience too!! Just hope I don't wake up tomorrow feeling really bad (fingers crossed)..
Oh, I weighed myself when I left the hospital and I was 10 pounds heavier than when I went in... Does anyone know if this is normal?

xxxx

I'm doing very well. I'm just skeptical that it will only get better. I guess so many years of pain and disappointment has left me feeling this way. I am day 4 post robotic assisted hysterectomy, left one ovary. Also had them take my appendix. I only have 4- 1/2 inch incisions that have almost completely healed already. I haven't had a pain pill since I left the hospital. I took ibuprofen for pain and it seemed to do the trick. Swelly belly is deflating each day. Haven't had a BM yet, so nervous about that, but all in all doing very well.

I felt the same way. I felt I could not take deep breaths. I was afraid of getting a pneumonia so I just tried to sit upright and take some deep breaths each hour. Keep drinking your water. I felt better by day 3 as far as the rib pain goes.

JL, glad to hear your recovering well. The first two days were the roughest for me because of all the gas in my tummy. Days 3 and 4 (yesterday and today) I'm feeling pretty good. I had my first bm yesterday and it wasn't near as bad as I expected. My doctor told me to take a stool softener for a few days just to make it easier so thats what I did. It helps, it doesn't make it as thin as what the bowl prep did but just enough that I don't have to strain any muscles yet. I too am on percocet and ibuprophen. It seems I need the ibuprophen sooner than the percocet simpley because it helps take down the swelling instead of JUST eliviate pain. Things are on the upside now, just hang in there each day does get a little better. I've stepped on the scale again today...4 days out from surgery and I've lost 13 lbs! Some of that was uterine weight (my uterus was 1385 grams!!!) and some of that is fluid weight I know, but still!! Good luck sisters, keep up the slow and steady process. Don't over do it just because you feel great today.

I had my LSH yesterday. Only it turned out that I didn't have much of a cervix to begin with, so while I expected to keep my cervix, the surgeon took most of it. He said I may still have a tiny bit left. I'm not really excited about that part, but am hoping for the best and I do totally trust my surgeon. It also turned out that I had a bicornate uterus, in addition to having a small septum. I knew about the septum, and blamed it for my troubles, but was surprised about the bicornate part. He also found endometriosis, which I suspected was there based on my pain symptoms, but had never been diagnosed with.

Yesterday was dreadful because I had a bad reaction to anesthesia and spent most of the day vomiting and dry heaving. Lovely. I also couldn't pee, so I had to wear a catheter home overnight. Lovely lovely. But today its a much brighter picture. I'm staying on top of my pain meds and have no more nausea, and I can pee! I never imagined I'd be so excited to pee!

All in all, I'm very hopeful that the worst is behind me, both in my recovery and in the long history of menstural pain and troubles. Yes, I'm resting tons and drinking lots of water.

By the way, if any of you like Pandora radio, I created a station based on Enya today and greatly enjoyed listening to it while I dozed on the couch. It was very relaxing and soothing.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 07-May 13,2012

I just had my surgery yesterday and came home a couplehours ago. It was a rough first day, the night much worse as I was so nauseated from the anesthesia (we think) that I was unable to keep anything in. I ended giving myself a headache and making my ab muscles more sore from getting sick every 30 minutes.
Anyway, today I feel better because I could finally eat something. My head still hurts and I have a lot of pressure in my shoulders from the excess air. That's about it for now. We'll see what tonight brings .

Day 2 home from the hospital and I think I am on the road to recovery Still having trouble breathing and when I eat it feels like the food sits under my ribs, almost as if I am super full after a bite or two. The hospital sent home a breathing meter thingie that I breath into every hour or so, so I am hoping that will help with my trouble breathing. It feels like I have sharp gas pains under my ribs when I breath. I'm assuming it's gas because I can also feel it still in my shoulder (like a pulled muscle feeling). Today I was able it get up and down a lot easier and I am now only taking Motrin, gas X, and stool softners (and tons of water).. If I am feeling this much better today I can't imagine it taking 2 weeks to really feel better. I hope everyone else is doing well
