Starting my "pre-Op Countdown" lol

So my Surgery is scheduled for the 24th of this month. My 2 pre-op appointments are on may 14th and May 16th. I was a little taken back by the fact that I had to be scheduled for 2 pre-op appointments, and even more set back by the fact that I wasn't given a chance to schedule them myself.

I pretty much got a call saying "we scheduled your pre-op appointments and they are on these days at these times and these locations. OH and BTW if you miss one it will set your surgery date back". So needless to say I haven't had the greatest experiences so far lol. The plan is to keep my ovaries and hope that my age keeps them functioning properly. The idea of early menopause or surgery induced menopause scares the daylights out of me to be honest.

I am a stay at home mom with 3 little girls (ages 9,7, and 4) and 2 little boxer pups. My husband works nights, and is unable to take more than a couple days off. So I am starting to get a little overwhelmed with how to take proper care of myself as well as everyone else when I get home. The surgery is planned as a laproscopic vaginal assist surgery, but I know that may change and be out of my control. So I am just trying to manage the stress level and prepare the kids for understanding that "mommy will be sore and need them to help out like big girls" LOL.

Re: Starting my "pre-Op Countdown" lol

We share the same date!

I hear you on getting the calls with the dates. Maybe they know I am so desperate to just be BETTER that I will take it. I was called with my one pre op of may 17, surgery date of may 24 (husband and mother are teachers.....a real pain to work around end of year standardized testing) and first post op of June 11. I know a lot of coordination goes in to scheduling.....on the 17th I see my dr. at 1045 am and then head to the hospital at one to meet with the anesthesiologist and get more labs done.

I, of course, did what I think most do. I called back to see if I could get in sooner (this was the end of March)....and was told my doc had already bumped two patients to July and August to get me in then.
It goes without saying, I hushed up

Re: Starting my "pre-Op Countdown" lol

Lol at least you know when your Post-Op appointment is! I haven't been given a post-op appt date yet. Not entirely sure what they are waiting for. We determined in March (end of) that a hysterectomy was the best route for me after a 10 year struggle with cervical cancer and now (at present) a pseudo pregnancy. The earliest my Dr could get me in was May 24th lol.

I think it is just overwhelming to me because the entire household counts on me to function and "keep running" So I am stressing out a bit about how to make sure it stays running right while I am "down and out". And of course, me being a worry wart is no help at all lol. I tend to worry about the most dramatic things.

I had bronchitis begining of April and I told my husband "what happens if I just can't breath or stop breathing while on the operating table?" and lately my big worry has been about anything going "wrong" and me having to be put on hormones or going through menopause in my 20's.... I am a wuss so needles are a big deal to me and I have a HORRIBLE memory so taking meds on a daily basis requires my phone to remind me lol.

Re: Starting my "pre-Op Countdown" lol

I hear you on the menopause thing....(I am 32). However, it would be worst case scenario.........and, in my case, worst case scenario is what is going on at the moment.

I think I am becoming the Queen of Rationalization!

Re: Starting my "pre-Op Countdown" lol

Coming from the other side.I'm 4 weeks postop today davinci. I also kept my ovaries. It is not as bad as what you might think only the first 3-4 days are a little tough. I went back to full time employment 1 week later. I also manage a company and was worried about being out(I have never been out more than 3 days). But just like busy households and companies they all learn to function without you for a short time. Just don't sweat the small things. Good luck ladies. I am loving my new life and you will too so soon it will be just a memory.
