Increased density normal after a hysterectomy?

Hi

Me again, yes another question? My doctor wanted me to have a mammo on Monday April, 9 2012. Which I did yesterday they called in regards to density in right breast which did not have last year? I have an appt with X-ray for more views, ultrasound and MRI is this kind of normal after hysterectomy? Also was asked if any pain, etc... in breast well I said yes, but thought was normal after hysterectomy since loss of hormones? What is Normal to feel? I had felt pain, noticed a weird color, and kind of sensation. Sorry to keep bothering you but dont want my husband to worry, I have not told anyone.

Re: Increased density normal after a hysterectomy?

Hi (((Sunshine))),

I've moved your question about breast density over here to our Breast Health forum where others with similar experiences can find it.

Hormone changes after surgery can result in breast changes, so yes, getting called back for changes after the surgery can be normal. Also there has been a switch over the past few years at a lot of facilities from the old type of mammography equipment to the newer digital type, and the increased sensitivity of the digital equipment results in more callbacks than previously. At my facility it's about 20% or more of women that get called back in any given year.

Estrogen dominance as a result of hormone changes can also cause some discomfort in the breasts due to cysts forming and resolving. Some women find that a little progesterone cream can help with that - ask your DR if that might be a good idea for you if it bothers you, but the cysts are benign and not related to cancer in any way.

Please try not to worry at this point. The odds are that you are just fine. I hope you'll feel comfortable sharing with your husband since he is your support system and might feel left out if you don't tell him what's worrying you.

Good luck with your upcoming appointment.

(((hugs)))

Re: Increased density normal after a hysterectomy?

Hi

I was terrified when I got a recall after a routine mammography due to "a change", about 18 months after my TAH/BSO. I had never had any problems or pain before. It turned out that my op was "relevant" and I was cleared subsequently but hubby and I had a horrible time waiting.

All the best to everyone
