I take a multivitamin and take it before I go to sleep as
it was upsetting my stomach in the morning. Other than
that I just take calcium supplements at least two per day.

Re: Are You Taking Vitamins/ Supplements??

I take naturally-sourced multivitamins, a Calcium-Magnesium-Vitamin D, an eye health herbal (I had Lasik, and this helps), milk thistle, Omega 3, and when I'm very active, a glucosamine/chondritin. I also drink a small glass of orange juice with chia seeds in it in the morning. Yum!

I'd been taking vitamins for years before DH started. He used to laugh at me, then he started taking them. Then he stopped. He noticed he didn't feel as good and started again and now won't be without them. We very rarely succumb to the colds and flus circulating amongst our coworkers, and this past year neither of us had been sick or even had a cold.

Our food is so genetically-manipulated, chemically-fertilized, picked when not even ripe (and once picked start losing nutrients immediately) that I believe any of us who don't have the benefits of our own gardens and orchards suffer from malnutrition.

Well, I'm off my soapbox!

Well I agree with what you just preached on your soap box....our food is not the foods that our great grandparents ate....we have food that is tainted from GMO's and the ground no longer provides the nutrients given to our veggies anymore....not to mention the crap they add to our food supply like MSG and High Frutose Corn Syrup...and the horrible growth hormones given to our milk and meat supply....I'm with ya on your soapbox girlfriend!

Re: Are You Taking Vitamins/ Supplements??

My post op info said to make sure to eat lots of protein. I've been taking a scoop or two a day of whey isolate protein powder, (mine is from GNC). It ups my protein by 40 to 60 extra grams per day without adding a bunch of extra calories. Also, Vit C is a biggy for healthy healing. I'm taking a Amla berry/spriulina blend. The Amla berry is supposed to be one of the highest sources of Vit C. I'm also taking my probiotic. I've noticed that intestinal issues tend to be common with this major of a surgery and it seems to help. I also take a green superfood powder to make sure I'm getting all my greens. I temporarily quit my enzymes. I'm worried that taking extra enzymes might cause my stitches to disolve before they're supposed to and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I try to eat well everyday, but hey, while I'm recovering I'm trying to give my body all the help it can get ! (I also take a multi, calcium & glucosomine).

Re: Are You Taking Vitamins/ Supplements??

I take supplements everyday...mine are food based, which means it is easily absorbed by my body. I dont take HRTs, and dont have any symptoms with my high quality supplements. I eat well, but according to JAMA journal of medicine we should all take supplements. Our food is mass produced and there is no timefor vine ripening..so our food doesnt have the proper nutrients it once had (one of the reasons for all the disease found today). Im 6 months post op from a total hysterectomy...and am doing well...thanks to
my supplements.

I'm so sorry you are experiencing all of that, major bummer!
You mentioned fatigue and brain fog. I was recently Dx with POTSyndrome and I also have a small hole in my heart. I get lightheaded or blackout when I stand I finally went to a cardiologist about it and everything is consistent with POTS. I've been taking Ritalin since the start of last summer, I felt better than I ever had over the summer, I started training for a triathlon. I found that is two things to treat POTS, exercise and Ritalin. My Dr told me to eat lots and lots of salt. Those are the things I'm trying for it. There is info on pots if you google it, it's not very well known though. I feel really blessed that I saw a dr that knew about it. Just a thought since its not very well known.

Are You Taking Vitamins/ Supplements??

I take quite a few. I've been adding to my daily vitamins over the last 5 years and recently watched a great documentary called "Food Matters", it gives a lot of great info on vitamins.

A few years ago I was in a lot of pain with endometriosis and felt kinda desperate for help (I'd had 2 laparoscopies in the past but financially couldn't do another yet). I googled holistic cures for endo and found that fish oil is a big help. I've been taking 3000 mg a day (give or take) since and it has helped me a LOT. I still get cramps but not nearly as bad. I just had a laparoscopy and bladder sling 4 weeks ago, my Dr said I don't have any endometriosis, but found adenomyosis.
I take One a Day Women's. I used to take Usana vitamins and LOVED them, but they put us on the poor house. My family Dr said these just don't dissolve as fast and that they should be pretty equal (I don't necessarily believe all vitamins are equal but these are working for me for now).
I was taking anti depressants but had side effects I didn't want to deal with, with each one I tried. I learned that Niacin is a natural anti depressant and you can take LOTS. I take 2000-3000 mg a day.
5000 mcg of biotin, I was losing a lot of hair, this did the trick.
D3 & B12, laxogenin, I'm just starting bee pollen, and I take Ritalin for POTS syndrome.
That's what I take and it works pretty well for me.

Are You Taking Vitamins/ Supplements??

Yes, supplements are a must IMHO. It is REALLY REALLY hard to get everything you need from diet, unless one is practically perfect :-) The RDA is way off, (IMHO) I mostly eat well, I garden organically, I try to follow "weston a price foundation" cooking, etc....
Because I am taking HRT, and an antidepressant, supplements are crucial. Both meds cause many B deficiencies & magnesium deficiencies for starters. I take a good B complex 2x day. (Shaklee) If I slack, I pay. I also take magnesium. (transdermal gel from Ancient Minerals). Magnesium is best absorbed through the skin, from what I have researched. I take Omegas (many perks, good ones). in the winter I take a dissolvable Vit D. It would be hard to OD on D for those of us living in the northern, cold climates.
I also take enzymes (again, deficient in many). I also take probiotics. (good ones from naturopath dr) I have many food intolerances so these are essential.
I am just starting on a vit C to help w allergies & food.
What I am learning: food intolerances make a persons life quite unpleasant. Know if you have any!!!!! Get an IGG blood food test. Your life will change!
If I am lazy and do not eat well and/or exercise, take supplements, and treat my body kindly, I suffer. I am also human, therefore I get lazy! Lots. And I start over. It's a new day!

hope this helps someone :-)
bugnhop
my info: age 34, TVH w BSO 6-09. Tri-Est Troches (just added 80 mg of progesterone x 5 days) GF,DF, EF.

Have you had IGG food testing??? This describes me PERFECTLY before I had my IGG tests!!!! I am highly gluten, dairy, & egg intolerant. (very much so) But I also have about 8 other intolerances, milder. If I strictly avoid my allergen foods, I feel like a million bucks. Even 1 day of gluten will set me back WEEKS. Muscle pain, headaches, FATIGUE, Brain FOG, etc.... You may want to do some research?? Hope this helps!
hugs, bugnhop

Re: Are You Taking Vitamins/ Supplements??

I have learned that if I take my digestive enzymes, I do well with any food in moderation. I do not take HRT or antidepressants, but I do take Mannatech products called Plus which works beautifully with such a calm and no side effects. I also see a Cranio Sacral Therapist to help balance my body and mind. I used to get aches, pains and twitches. I have learned through my Doctor after several trips to the ER that these are caused by emotions. So I got my emotions in order and I am feeling healthy once again. I have stopped thinking that I am sick all the time and am finally feeling healthy. Good luck ladies.
