starting HRT 2 years out
I'm two years out from my TAH-BSO and had been doing fine w/o hrt. I started having vaginal itching and with ruling out infections, I decided to try some hrt. I was allergic to Estrace, tried Replens, but still had itching. Now I am trying the Femring-its only been 24 hours. Still itching. AND I feel like I'm having a period. Not the kind before with the bad endo. I don't think my body likes this thing. BTW, I'm a tad bit impatient.
I had enough health issues before that those meds, took care of things like hot flashes. I don't think the brain will ever be the same but that may be from the 5 and 7 year old. I need a vacation from my life.
Any advice?

Re: starting HRT 2 years out
I hope your'e at least using vaginal estrogen - meaning Estring, Estrace cream, Premarin cream or Vagifem. The Femring is for systemic estrogen, not localized. With Femring, I still had to supplement with Vagifem to get enough localized estrogen to avoid itching, UTIs, yeast infections.
I would consider asking for the cream - either Estrace or Premarin to re-estrogenize those vaginal tissues. Without it, the Femring is likely to cause irritation especially if it's been 2 years without estrogen--- your vag tissues are probably thinning, dry and very sensitive..
The brain, eyes, urinary tract, bone density, etc are all helped by systemic estrogen... without it, there can be deficiencies...
Most of us with endo use progesterone in addition to the estrogen replacement to keep the endo from growing (what remains) with the estrogen... ask your dr.

Re: starting HRT 2 years out
I was allergic to the estrace cream. I think I will call tomorrow and let them know that this just isn't working. At first a "ring" sounded so much better than vagina suppositories. But I am really uncomfortable. Like endo symptons are firing up. Do you think I should keep it in over night? I want it out now! But feel like that isn't giving it a chance. But I think I'd rather itch than have pain.
What do you take? If you don't mind my asking? I think my doc likes the surgery part of all this, not the hormone adjustment stuff later!

Re: starting HRT 2 years out
I have used Femring in the past but it only lasted 3 weeks for me, not 3 months. I currently use Estrogel and supplement with Estrace tablets as needed. Plus prometrium capsules (progesterone) and testosterone cream.
I have read some complain of abdominal pain with Femring. I think it aggravated my bladder a bit too. Have you tried the patch or estrogel? You can get coupons for either online at their websites.
I have used Vagifem and Estrace cream in the past to estrogenize the vaginal areas and urethral opening (it gets too exposed when low estrogen and leads to UTIs).
Due to my widespread endometriosis, my dr would only allow me to use estrogen if I used concurrent progesterone. It's nearly impossible to get all the endometriosis and the estrogen will fuel its growth if unopposed.
