dVH/RALH: Anyone else get the aww you won't have any more babies looks/comments?

As I got closer to my surgery date of tomorrow I have had three incidents in the last week or so of people commenting about how I won't have any more babies after the surgery or giving me that look. A friend of mine who I've known since I was 5 and is a mother of three gave me the look when she was inquiring about what I was having done. I've known her 35 years so I knew that's what she was thinking. Another friend said to me yesterday, aww you won't have any more babies and then began to pout. She herself is 38 and kind of wanting another child(her daughter is 20) so she obviously was unknowingly putting her issue off on me. My 19 year old daughter has even made some uncomfortable comments but I think it is her way of coming to grips with that fact that she will definitely be my only child although she has four siblings through her father who she only met a few years back.

I didn't tell a lot of people for many reasons and these situations have reaffirmed my decision to keep the information private. I didn't quite expect these comments but I've come to expect anything from people. Frankly I hadn't really thought about it as I've just been focusing on what I needed to focus on to get prepared. I will be 40 next month and my daughter is nearly 20 so I've long been over "raising babies". I've been a single mom the entire duration and if life had been different I would have had more kids but that was not in the cards. My daughter is a wonderful young woman and several of her close friends that she has grown up with truly feel like my children. Not to mention my multiple Godchildren and God-grandchildren who have starting being born. I'm really OK with not birthing more kids and wish people would ask how I feel about it instead of making stupid comments. I'm trying not to think too much about the comments and reactions of people but geez, how insensitive.

I have the opposite problem. My husband's family doesn't like big families. My husband and I always wanted a bit family. We have 3 kids. I wanted 4 and he wanted 5. I would have loved to have had another baby, but it just wasn't safe for me to have another pregnancy and another c-section. But his family is all rejoicing that I can't get pregnant again. They had been trying to push me to get a tubal. So, I have to deal with them saying over and over how great it is that we won't have another pregnancy and I wish that we could.

I get it all the time! I am 39.. my kids are 21,17,&16. A baby is the last thing I want. I am almost to the finish line...
Don't you think its funny that some people say these stupid things..
To me its even funnier that those are probably the same people who would make a dumb comment about an uh-o baby if I was.
Don't worry about stupid people. Your health is sooooo much more important!

It's amazing the comments people come up with. My first post on this website was about this very subject. I agree with everyone above! You need to do what's best for you and the only person you have to answer to is yourself. Health first......everyone's else's comments come in very last, if at all! Sending hugs!!

I got a lot of "you'll never have a baby". News flash, it wasn't gonna happen *with* the defective uterus either!

Worry about what worries you, don't waste your time on others worries... I'm sure you have enough of your own. :-/
