weight...

To the post op sisters...What has been your experience with weight or diet issues post op?
I have been trying for the last 6 months to stick with my diet, been successful, then WHAM...hit with the hormonal roller coaster. I have a failed ablation, constant pelvic pain, and painful cysts on my ovaries every month.

I am hoping once the evil uterus and other parts are gone, that it will be easier to control since I wont have the constant up and down of pms every few weeks.

Any thoughts ladies? Thank you!

Re: weight...

gomekast,

The hormone connection to weight for me is huge. Once I got my hormones settled down I was able to lose 50 pounds! Going on HRT after my ovaries were removed gave me control--well me and my Dr. This smoothed the peaks and valleys of perimenopause hormone fluctuations and made me feel much better. I don't recommend ovary removal for weight loss!! I was 55 at the time and it was right for me.

For a while my HRT wasn't working right and I gained weight--hormone connection.

The pain and discomfort of having a rebellious uterus/ovaries sure doesn't help with weight control. I have joint pain and tend to medicate with food. It isn't easy.

I've been much better at working out and staying fit now that I don't have the gyne issues.

Re: weight...

Hey gomekast! My hysterectomy was on Feb. 27th, both ovaries removed, HRT started the next day. I lost 10 pounds in the weeks after surgery and haven't gained them back. I think that, at first, I was doing so little that I didn't eat large amounts. Several smaller meals each day was plenty. After I started feeling better (endo removed, fibroids gone, no more cysts) my activity increased- more so than before surgery. It's been two and a half months now. I am able to do pretty much what I want activity-wise. I am active without really exercising and eat healthy meals without dieting. So far so good. Having the pain gone makes everything feel more possible. Good luck to you!

Re: weight...

I would gain 10lbs with each period and then struggle to get those off before the next period came.
I'm about 4 weeks post-op and I've lost 5lbs so far. It doesn't sound like much but I'm eating like a cow and I've only worked out once in this time. Even the bloating in my face went away!

I haven't had my hysterectomy yet, its scheduled for next month, but I am like you. I gain 10-12lbs every time I have my period and I fight to lose it all before my next period hits. I am having a LAVH/BSO and my hormones are all over the map, I am hoping this will help "level" them out.

I am the same exact way. Each time I get a period I gain 10-15 pounds, and some months I would get 2 periods. Each time I made some progress and lost a measurable amount, my body would revolt and the hormonal roller coaster would take off at high speed.

Makes me feel so much better knowing I am not alone. 2 more days and I hope to stop that darn ride once and for all!

I love all my sisters for their support and honesty!

Re: weight...

I stay 15-20lbs lighter without trying.

I'm actually able to *do* again, and I love it! Before it was me, the couch, and the heating pad. No more!
