Re: encouraging Scriptures for surgery?

my pastor read to me from Philippians 4 - not sure the verse but it started with 'Rejoice in the Lord" but the 8 words he wanted me to repeat were
"The Lord is near, do not be anxious" It sure did help. I also kept thinking of my wedding passage Psalm 121 "I lift my eyes to the hills, from where my help comes....."

Re: encouraging Scriptures for surgery?

Different version of one already posted. This was on a dry-erase board in Same Day Admitting when I had my D&C. Made me cry, eased my mind.

"The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." - Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)

Re: encouraging Scriptures for surgery?

I am just passing by - site came up under search for "surgery scripture."

I noticed you all had mentioned the painting of the surgical room with Jesus guiding the surgeon's hand. I think the poem on the website is called "The Operation." The painting is called "Chief of Staff," and it's by a painter whose last name is Green. There's a huge version of it at Florida Hospital in Orlando, FL. I saw a smaller version of it in a surgical waiting room there and thought it was creepy until I realized one person wasn't wearing blue.

And, to contribute:

Ps 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God.

Matt 7:25
The floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: For it was founded upon a rock.

Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (NIV)

The poem Footprints:
"My precious child, I love you and will never leave you, never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."

The song "Held" from Natalie Grant:
Listening to this is like open heart surgery. It's tough. But it answers a question I previously thought couldn't be answered.

This post is 5 years old, but it's hitting home for me. It's time to get my act together. Thank you ladies for starting this thread. Keep me in your prayers

Re: encouraging Scriptures for surgery?

many thanks for posting these. I have been sooooo nervous these last few days. Having SAH or possibly TAH on 9/24 and can't sleep and can't eat most days because of the anxiety. The Scriptures were very helpful, a great reminder of Whose hands you are truly in during surgery.

Re: encouraging Scriptures for surgery?

I want to share with all of you what happened this morning. My hubby left for work at 5:45 A.M., I tried to go back to sleep but with surgery TOMORROW I started thinking, crying, afraid...

Grabbed my bible and in this NIV version sections have headings and the page my bible dropped open to ... well the words leapt off the pages to me ... "DO NOT BE AFRAID"... Matthew 6:25! You know, the lillies of the field, etc... a wonderful verse to hang onto!

PRAISE THE LORD!!!!

Meanwhile I'm unhappy that my plans to spend this last day with family have been dropped because at the last minute my Dr. told me I have to do a bowel prep. I'm really upset about this because my mom's not well enough to drive, my daughter's entire household is sick, my sister's out of town, and my best friend - well her daughter just had her first baby. So feeling pretty alone.

"Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your heats and minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." John 14:27

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you an dlearn from Me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden in light." Matthew 11:28-30
