Belly Button oozing

I dont know if this has been noted yet, and i apologize if it has been covered. But, i am 2 weeks post op and i had a single incision hysterectomy thru my belly button. Well after my 1st week follow up my dr. took out what little sutures i had. Now my belly button will not stop oozing. It does not smell, it is not hot, there is no infection. The color is a rusty color. And is ruining all my clothes and I have no idea what to do. Should I call him? Use a liquid bandage? Pack it with gauze and put a bandaid on it? Is it normal? Any ideas would be much appreciated. BTW....love this site!!!!!

Re: Belly Button oozing

Hi I'm almost at my 2 week mark. I had the same problem. I had incision thru navel and 2 incisions at bottom of stomach. I put a gauze over my navel and secured it with surgical tape. I wish you a speedy recovery.

I'd call your doctor in the morning and ask.

Re: Belly Button oozing

Please call your doctor. Different types of wounds require different kinds of care. Some doctors will tell you to cover it while others will tell you to leave it uncovered. Some say to use polysporin and others say to keep it very dry. Only your doctor knows how best to care for your incision.

Re: Belly Button oozing

I'd call the Dr but he'll probably tell you to leave it alone. The juices you see are healing fluids, the same thing happened to me. I bothered it ALOT and ended up getting it infected. Please call and see what your specific surgeon wants you to do. Keep us posted.
