Bleeding 5 years post??

So starting in November 2011 I noticed some vaginal bleeding for about 3-5 days but mostly brown "old blood". It stopped after that andi didn't think much of it. I recently had a CT scan that showed the dermoid cyst on my poor lone ovary was recurrent so I just thought it was from that. However, now I have period bouts of cramping and continued brown bleeding for about 3-5 days at a time, no more than once a month or so...

I have been avoiding any further surgical intervention due to the fact that I have so many adhesions from the adenomyosis and each time they go back in it increases them :-(. I am on pain management already (minimal dose).

Any ideas as to what this is? My husband is deployed currently so it's not related to anything sexual. My last hormone level was low but normal. I know some people develop "mini periods" with the sub total hysts but 5 years later?

Re: Bleeding 5 years post??

There can be a number of reasons for post hysterectomy bleeding so don't panic at this point but do seek medical attention.

To help you and your medical team figure out what is going on, you should also keep a detailed symptom diary.

Because you have your cervix and and at least one ovary, yes the issue could be a mini period even this far out. Possibly your hormone levels have changed causing the mini periods to begin.

Additionally, if any adenomyosis was left with your cervix it may have progressed to a point that is now causing the bleeding and cramps in response to hormones.

You should at least ask if you need a pelvic exam to make sure all is well. Depending on the reason for the bleeding and cramps, your doctor could prescribe progesterone or progestin or even birth control pills to help.

As you know, over time our body goes through various changes and as it does we can acquire new health concerns. With your DH deployed, you may also be dealing with stress that is triggering health issues. Stress can affect our hormones which could then trigger some issues.

in there!

Re: Bleeding 5 years post??

I have had this problem several times in the last two years since my surgery. I had it a couple of months after, almost a yr later, and then a couple of months ago I was being intimate and I thought I was hemorrhaging. It turns out you can get little tears in your incision areas. I would check with you Dr, but every time I've bled this is what it's been. Hope you get an answer soon.
